Gilchrist out -> In another unknown NSW player.

*YAWN* what a friggin joke!

While we are at it, why does Sydney get live all day coverage of the game tonight when the stands were 75% empty? And Melbourne doesn't get all day TV coverage when there is 75,000 plus packed in at the MCG?

haddin is unknown is he? go to a friggen pura cup match and you might learn something you dickhead

watching a little bit of the ODI last night I wondered the same thing - game must have sold out but not everyone turned up obviously.

- Rain was threatening in Sydney most of yesterday

- Maybe alot of fans stayed away because the cricket in general has been one-sided and a bit, well, dull I suppose

cheers

Ever heard of a guy named Campbell in WA or Seccombe in QLD?

Would of been Australian players by now if they had NSW stamped on their passport.

Haddin - the NSW bias continues.

BRING BACK SIMON COOK!

I was about to post about the same thing. The crowd was 33,000 the ground holds over 40,000 yet good old Sydney gets it live. That is a disgrace. I don't mind Sydney getting it live so much, it is the fact that Melbourne does not. Why on Boxing Day 73,000 people yet no coverage? Etc, Etc,,. The One Day games, crowds well in excess of 40,000.

This is a tough call, Haddin was picked by a few of you as the next test/one day keeper to Gilchrist - so are people upset because they don't know his name as well as Berry and Seccombe or that he plays for NSW (Although I'm sure he played for the Comets a few seasons ago).

Darky - Campbell is a good one day batsman/keeper similar to the Gilchrist mould - where he can make explosive starts very quickly. However in the past year or two he's fallen out of flavour with the WA selectors and was thinking of packing up his bags and moving to Victoria. He can play - his ACB contract was proof of that, but it will be a struggle to see him come back and contest a spot in the Australia squad.

Don't worry GE, I know who Campbell is, I've been an avid follower of domestic cricket for the last 10 years or so. It just beats me how the loon who posted a bit further up wants him in the national team when he is in a form slump that saw him omitted from the WA state team.
Campbell's batting is probably most similar to Slater's. A real dasher when he gets going, but generally doesn't do it often enough. He doesn't make enough runs either, and gets himself out in the 20s-30s a lot.
I don't recall him ever having an ACB contract either (but am willing to be proven wrong on that).

I know Wade Seccomeb, isn't he the guy hes highest score is only 22 this season, and 64 for his whole career.
While theres Ryan Campbell. Who's average is 20 for this season.
But yet, you want these 2 in front of Haddin who has scored 3 half centuries, average mid 30's and strike rate over 100. While in his career he has had 8 scores of over 50 with in only 22 matches.
I reckon its pretty unfair giving Haddin a run in front of the other, dont you??

Not this Campbell crap again!

He doesnt have a contract and i proved that the last time!

Mags

Campbells an ordinary wicketkeeper.Seccombe should be playing.
Haddin had to pass a fitness test yesterday so how much keeping has he done in the last few weeks ?

The funny thing is that the whole SCG capacity can fit into The GREAT Southern stand. That's how shitty their ground is. Please Richie Benaud stop your constant bragging over the "Full House" at the ground when we can see with our own eyes that it aint full.
Haddin replacing Gilchrist, as predictable as the current cricket results.

The major gripe about Haddin being selected is here's another kid who's played a handful of games and gets picked for Oz. While players from other states like Fleming, Symonds, Elliott, Bichel, Dale, Lehmann (and now Inness it seems) for example had to hack away for 5 years plus before they got their chance. It sucks!

Now i know youll all be surprised that im responding to this thread (ANT where are you?) but amazing as it seems i actually believe Haddin is the next best batsman/keeper, so i try to console myself that he isnt from Sydney but from the ACT.

Everyone knows that a keeper's selection prospects are largely due to being in the right place at the right time. There's only a handful to pick from and as pointed out by someone else in this topic, most posters saw Haddin as the next Aussie keeper so why not give him a taste now.

And while you're still having a cry about picking so-called unknowns, Ian Healy was an unknown (Qld's 3rd choice keeper) at the time of selection. Do you regret his selection?
Shane Warne had played only a few first-class matches and took bugger all wickets in them. Do you regret his selection?

Everybody is pointing out Haddin's batting statistics but his keeping is what should be getting him in the side and I reckon it's below one day international standard. Good luck to him but I think the best keeper should be chosen and it's certainly not him.

Healy was picked lucky as at the end of 1987/88 there was nobody else around. Dyer cheated his way out the the team, Zoehrer had his chance and failed , SA had Wayne Phillips who retired at the end of that year. Right spot at the right time for Healy (and he wasn't Qld's 3rd choice keeper at the time)

Warne was the only leg-spinner in the country at that time and Oz selectors love legspinners regardless.

If you want to argue keepers - Berry & Seccombe are better keepers better than Gilchrist even but do you want a better batsman over a better keeper?

But Ant whats the alternatives? Berry and Seccombes batting just wouldnt cut it at international one day level, that would mean finding a new opener selecting another batsman and forgoing the flexibility of one of the allrounders. Gilchrist will be around for a long time so why not give Haddin a chance, who is by far the best batting prospect and hope the other States develop new keepers like Peter Roach in Victoria who will put pressure on Haddin in years to come. Haddins keeping will need to improve long term no doubt if he is to remain the keeper in waiting.

Haddin has played a couple of seasons with NSW and had a season with the Comets in the Merc Mutual Cup as well (he has a couple of one day centuries). He is an appropriate batsman - probably the closest batsman in the country (forgetting that he is a keeper) to Gilchrist. Bracken looks pretty ordinary but Haddin looks the goods.

Roach will probably move somewhere next year. Go to NSW son and you'll play for Oz in no time! As Campbell is moving to Victoria as the chick he is porking (Mick Malthouse's daughter) is coming to work for Channel 10 in Melbourne. So he'll then have Berry & Campbell ahead of him.

Wendy - did Christi Malthouse get a transfer from Perth to Melbourne for 10?

As for Campbells contract, I'm fairly sure he did have one for a season or two - it was when he made the Australian A side.

Wendy, you kinda turn me on when you type like that

BUBBA, our batsmen are hardly getting a chance to bat as it is. I read that Haddin wouldn't be opening anyway and probably be batting down the order, with Symonds coming out with M. Waugh. The team will probably remain quite similar so you may as well give a decent keeper a chance. Having said that, the selectors are trying to give the young lad some experience for the future, upcoming tours. So I guess I can't be too critical.
