A Large Portion, Yes
I know ODB wants to erase it, but maybe it'll fade from memory a little more smoothly after reading this here tidbit I just chucked on the Roys board ...
Carlton 2002 easily accounts for Fitzroy 95 & 96.
In my wild search for some way to say Carlton 2002 made Fitzroy look good, I put a bit of effort in.
I took every score from Carlton's 2002 season and compared it to the corresponding round score in Fitzroy's 1995 season, then did the sam with our 1996 season. IE a took the scores and pretended they were playing each other every week.
Carlton (2002) v Fitzroy (1995) :
Carlton (2002) won 13 matches and Fitzroy (1995) 9
Average score : Carlton 76 Fitzroy 74 (ave margin 2)
Biggest win : Fitzroy - Round 22 (66 points).
Biggest win : Carlton - Round 13 (57 points).
Carlton (2002) v Fitzroy (1996) :

Average score : Carlton 76 Fitzroy 66 (ave margin 11)
Biggest win : Fitzroy - Round 2 (68 points).
Biggest win : Carlton - Round 13 (70 points).
And, in case you're wondering :
Fitzroy (1995) v Fitzroy (1996) :
Fitzroy (1995) won 15 matches and Fitzroy (1996) 7.
Average score : Fitzroy (1995) 74 Fitzroy (1996) 66 (ave margin 9)
Biggest win : Fitzroy (1995) - Round 21 (48 points).

So, did I find a way to say Fitzroy was better than Carlton's 2002 season? Well, *draws long bow* :
Times 100 or more were scored :
3 - Fitzroy (1996)
2 - Carlton, Fitzroy (1995)
... can anyone see the end of my bow?
So have heart, Bluebaggers. As I'm sure you knew, there's been MUCH worse out there!!!
