How long after an event does this saying become almost ridiculous when said.

I heard a 90 year old bloke reminiscing about his early 20's indulging in stories later to tell the audience it was something he would never forget. Gee, really after over three quarters of century of remembering you are of the opinion you will remember the incident for what another 5-10 years max of what is left of your life?

I just found it quite odd, maybe he could have said 'it was something i have never forgotten' that would have been more appropriate.

I've always thought it a bit strange, especially when it's something really, really confronting, amazing etc. Sort of goes without saying...

Dude obviously hasn't heard of altzheimers.

To be pedantic, Alzheimer's sufferers have a loss of short term memory, however they are good at recalling events from many years ago.

I know this for a fact, my Step-Father had the condition, lived with it until his death.
