Never have i been so disgusted during gametime and on the way to the car from our most recent match against the WCE. I am sick and tired of the blantant coaching difficiency that is present in our club. There are problems with team selection....game plan....and something as simple as match ups.
Round 18 was no different.
Yeah we can beat crap teams by over 100 points, but these weaknesses are just masked when playing less than average teams.
Here are a few examples just from one game of football
Team Selection:
Gwilt....obvisiosly not fit from injury.
Gilbet.....We bring in a tall defender for a running midfielder (baker) against a team who contains very few big and talented forwards.
Peckett....Powell....Thompson.....Why give these blocks another year to play on and off the bench. This is how you bleed young players such as McQualter and such.
Blake....how is this block playing AFL football.
Game Plan:
Any Stkilda supporter can see that we have a problem with getting the ball past our half back line. And our delivery to the forwards is somewhat poor. We fail to play fast and direct football.
And this is one only for Saints fans who go to the game (as it is impossible to see the whole ground on TV) When do we ever see the likes of Dal Santo, Ball, Hayes, And Harvey feeding off eachother and in the same location of the ground. GT make our midfield work as individuals and not as a team (aka WCE)
Match Ups:
Just the worst one for friday night as i could go on for years.....
Seeing Gram run towards Judd??? I Initially thought "yeh, same type of player....grams capable" But just before the ball was bounced the stupidity of that found me.....Why give our best player from the week before a negative role. Especially when the likes of Peckett, Powell and Thompson and in the side. That (even before the 1st bounce) was a disgrace. And he was immeadiately moved off him. What a waste of a week of planning.
Daniel Kerr #4....Myself and my father have been screaming to tag this rat from mid way through the 1st quarter of round one. OK, the tag may not have been initally created before round one but surely he should have learnt from the first encounter this year. Friday night, he absolutely cut us to pieces. Our failure to tag the opposing midfield and rather go head to head with them lost us the game (As well as that prelim against sydney) Especially once again with the likes of Peckett, Powell and Thompson in the team.
Just a comparison to if Blighty was still coach, i am positive that Blake would have been delisted that first year. And it is interesting enough to see how GT has tried to mould him into our number one ruckman. Quite a comparison indeed.
And im sick of Dal Santo playing in the midfield when the pressure starts to mount against us. He should be in there from the start....not just when we need to come back from behind. Everytime we are in that situation late in the game...our best midfield suddenly emerges in the centre. It is unbelievable.
Its Time to go......
