Did anyone see Maric play last night against the blues? From the radio broadcast they had big wraps on him and said he was a main reason for Ports charge after half time. They said he can mark, is aggresive and one big fella.

Yep, made their best.

Exciting, and is working with Mark Stevens on playing CHF. Was always a roughie with a potentially huge upside. Salivating over the prospect of a big, bulky kid who can ruck AND hold down a KP!

My word from crows insiders is that this kid can play.

Also that Knights an absolute gun, however Meesen is NOT impressing officials.

Any particular reason why Meeson is not impressing? Attitude, ability, personality?

Rehnny looked lacksadaisical most times as well, but he was always putting in and he was one of the game's greatest modern ruckmen.

Let Meese develop.

Any word on Watts, Ladhams and Krueger?

Rehnny was a superstar. Did you see him in the finals?

I'm sorry, you may be a Port supporter, but Rehn is one of the standout ruckmen of the last 2 decades.

He's a good kid, but looks not eager enough.

Playing in Norwood Ressies, not sure if promoted.
Like to get confirmation of this opinion B4 we start tearing the kid apart - although was disappointed seeing Travis Cloke play so well at CHF in his first year - kid will be a gun.

When was the last time we had a recruit that stepped straight into AFL in year one - AND PLAYED WELL ?????

No - second season - played Port Magpies first season and had a broken jaw.

Anyone - i can't think of any???
You watch West Coast and you cant help being impressed by their selections and management. Edwards and LeCras( LeCras is VBs mate) just in the last 3 weeks.

Dunno about him being the main reason for our comeback. Would have had 3 to 4 other players that were more influential in that period (Elstone, Brown, Poulton and Waterhosue). But he played ok.

Ill split his game into two halves as they were both fairly different.

He played 90% of the game in the ruck. In the first half he was well beaten by Feast in getting hands to the ball and body placement. Better in the centre circle than around the ground rucking. His around the ground play was terrible. Played a kick behind the play and just couldnt read where the ball was going and therefore struggled to get to contests and was often caught 20 metres away wandering what to do.

2nd Half he started getting hands on the ball a bit more, showed a bit of muscle (tho he gave away a behind the play free which led to a shot that was a behind) and he read the play a lot better. He got to plenty of contests in defence but the only problem was he dropped a lot of marks. Probably dropped 3 to 4 in Sturts forward 50. Another time he took a strong mark in front of a pack and with no awareness went to run off with the ball whilst standing next to two Sturt players who immediately tackled him, the ball spileld out and a goal was kicked. That was before our third quarter purple patch and after that he took some more marks and helped set the play up from backward of centre.

Overall I would have rated his game a 5 out of 10. Would have had him probably 8th or 9th best player for us. He was good, but made some pretty bad blues at the wrong place on the ground. Altho beaten in actual rucking by Feast, when he got his hand on the ball it almost always landed down the throat of a Magpie which was good to see. Knows how to direct his taps and does some pretty creative things at ruck contests. Currently is better at centre bounce downs than around the ground...seems to get a bit outsmarted regarding body position at throw ins.

Hes a good kid and is developing well. When listening to the coaches addresses in the ressies and seniors he seems to really listen to what they are saying which is a good thing.

All his faults at the moment are things that he will learn with maturity and more development. Probably needs a better kicking action but all the other faults you can see being ironed out over the next year or two.

From what ive seen of him and Meeson so far I'd rate him above Meeson (tho ive seen 6 Maric games to Meesons 2). I reckon he will be a gun. Feel free to trade him to us anytime you like.

Dunno about him being a Key Forward. The times he has spent up forward with Ports ressies hes struggled to get a kick. Sluggish off the mark and Im not the most confident over his kicking, tho he would definately outmuscle a lot of defenders. He definately seems like a more natural Ruck tho.

i think Rehny being one of the greatest moden ruckman is a bit too full he was a good ruckman, but no superstar. How many AA does he have???

His overall record isn't worthy of such a tag, but you have to remember he did his knee three times, and as such people are working from the potential he showed and accomplishments he achieved in spite of this adversity.

Had he been able to develop completely unhindered he would've given the Brownlow a massive shake - especially considering Scott Wynd and Jim Stynes have one.

In the end he finished up with 2 AA guernseys, 2 Premiership Medallions and a Gold Jacket, but it could and should have been so much more.

So in other words pretty similar to Willits, except Maric can also play in the ruck.

He polled quite well in several Brownlows if I recall correctly?

As reigning All-Australian ruckman going into 1995, he was cherry ripe to take the next step. Unfortunately he was cut down for each of the next two years. Could have won one otherwise, undoubtedly.

I think Willits is more of a natural ruck as well (197cm isnt small) but hes spent a lot more time as a forward than Maric has.

Benny Hudson.
Played alright last year. Cracker this year. ;)
Your right of course but in over 10 years is that the only one ????

And Hudson at 25 years of age I believe surprised even the Crows as he was recruited only as insurance ;)
