Just wondering whether anybody thought having a third forward option may have stretched Geelong's backs last night. I think on a bigger ground like the G, on occasions we can get away with a third tall as Cloke and Dawes are very mobile and without the Skunk last night we missed that extra option up forward.
Having brought back Wellers, we probably didn't need as many runners as we had cause the Cats aren't excessively quick. Thoughts?

I think we brought in Wellers for that exact reason; to try expose them for run. Would Anthony have helped? Not sure; I'd expect Scarlett would have taken him and just run right through him anyway.

Absofrickinlutely.

Our marking forwards in the game against St. Kilda: Cloke, Medhurst (no JA, Dawes)
Result - 4.17

Our marking forwards in the game against Geelong: Cloke, Dawes (no JA, Meds)
Result - 6.14

In just about every other game we've gone in with three marking forwards and look at the scores we've put up. We've left out Anthony on this occasion so that we could push Pendlebury out of the centre, and retain O'Bree and watch him get 10 touches *slow clap*.

Our selectors need to get some sack and pick a forward line to win a game of football. If we want to be the best team in the league, it's time to make our rivals match up on us in our forward 50. I refuse to believe that the shit-down defence is going to break down because we have one more guy worth kicking it to standing the mark on kickouts.

Personally I believe havin jack out there would of been a real difference maker.

A straight kick was what we lacked and resulted in many wasted chances in front of goal

A lot of people probably won't agree with me on this but I wouldn't have minded seeing Leigh Brown out there last night, from all accounts he is putting his hand up for selection. I just don't think Jack is quite right yet, and I just think having another hard body like Brown in our forward line would have made our entries a bit more interesting. From memory the last time we played them in the home an away season he was quite good apart from his kicking.

Having said that our entries were quite poor, you can't continually bomb the ball in hoping players like Leon Davis will out mark their opponents. Perhaps another tall forward would have brought it to ground but still, you can't expect to win games of football just bombing it in and what worries me is that we seem to be doing it a lot, even those big wins we seemed to do it at times and when it pays off its great but against Geelong you can't expect to be 'lucky'. What ever happened to honoring a lead? Or do we lack skill wise the ability to spear it to a moving player?

In fairness to leon, on many occasions last night we bombed the ball in and his only option was to try and outmark a bulkier opponent, his value is primarily crumbing and without a third tall he was forced to be the marking option as Dawes and Cloke were covered.
Having Jack in the side as well may have prevented this.
How many runners does Mick need to rotate seriously, don't need all of Macaffer,Obree and Ball in the side if you ask me. Structure is supposedly important in todays game yet we don't always formulate the right structure.
