Spoke with him at meet and greet today. He is very happy to be here. GWS were happy to have him stay on but he wanted to go elsewhere for greater opportunity. Was liking Brisbane very much. It is so much cheaper to live here than Sydney and so much easier and quicker to get around.

Average to slightly above average skills and pace isn't slow but not lightning either
If that's measured against your side, he probably represents an upgrade for us.

Dodongo told you all to stick by Barrett and that he would show why he was rated as a youngster. Dodongo loves what Dodongo sees the last two games and Dodongo knows that Barrett will only get better with games and confidence.

Dodongo was right Dodongo was, all hail Dodongo.

Surely Jake wins Goal of the Week this week too; absolutely cracking goal.

As an aside, Jake didn't get the nod for the NAB Rising Star award when I thought he was a fair chance to get it.

Been really pleased with his performance he's a great pick up from the club. If we can get a couple more like him it'd really help us push for the top next in a couple of years.

Barrett nominated for goal of the year

Jake Barrett has been nominated for the AFL's Goal of the Year following a sublime left-foot checkside against Fremantle on Saturday night.

Barrett is up against Joe Daniher and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti for this week's best goal.

Brisbane Lions youngsters Jake Barrett and Nick Robertson left the ground late against Port Adelaide, but coach Chris Fagan could not shed any light on the pair after the game. Meanwhile, Lions vice-captain Tom Rockliff spent extended periods on the bench in the second half. It is unclear whether that was due to a groin problem.
