I would argue his form dropped off in 2016 and this is who he is as a player now. Not doubting there are issues off field that can't have helped but not like he was a star last year and went to crap after everything came out

I agree with your timeline rather than the OP's timeline. Jake was in decline from mid-2016 and eventually got dropped in the 2nd half of the year, before coming back and playing in each of the finals. He was close to our worst player in the 2016 GF (which I have watched enough times to be confident about).

Very true. In 2016 he only averaged 14 disposals which included a strong start to the year so I am guessing the second half of that year he averaged less than the first half. He followed up with only 12 last year and is currently only averaging 13 this season. In fact 14 is the highest he’s averaged in a season which makes your comment “this is who he is as a player” even more true.
I think his reputation gathered some steam after a purple patch where he kicked some great goals but on either side of that stretch he’s been just a player.

I'd argue that his form has always been fake news, and that he has always popped up for a couple of joe the goose goals during a 5 minute per game spurt of effort, and further assert that he spends the rest of the games sitting in a deck chair in the forward pocket fiddling with his package
