It's been pretty well documented in the press that this is his last but i just heard on the radio that hes says he wont rule out playing another season after this one.
Can't see him having too much to offer by then.

Meanwhile West Coast veteran Glen Jakovich has declared that the coming season will be his last.

Jakovich will play his 300th AFL match against Collingwood this weekend, a milestone which will see him become the first Eagles player to earn AFL life membership.

From this quote it appears that in the number of game figures they are now counting Wiz Cup fixtures. Fair enough but they are really just practice matches and alot of good players sit them out.

Number of regular season games plus state games is a far better barometer.

Should have retired at the end of 2002 IMHO.

I know he has been an icon to the club and he will always be a champion in our eyes, but Jak's body and leg speed are no longer up to it, nor has it been for 2 years.

He will only be a bench player and will only have short spurts. I understand we MAY owe him the decision to retire on his own terms, but I always have believed we have a lot of talent on our list and we need to utilise it to give players experience and time.
One player could make more difference than letting Jak take a spot on the bench.

I also believe a flag is not within our grasp for maybe 2-3 years as our spine is nowhere as good as our midfield and this is an unbalance for our team structure.

With great respect to Jak, I just prefer to look towards the future rather than the past to when this man does belong to.

JAKOVICH is my favorite player and i hope he plays 1 more season to complete the transition period between jakovich and other young key position players.
i intend to make a memorial thread at the end of the season.
GO JAKO U CHAMPION!

also does anyone know hopw long gardiner is out hopefully hell be right by round 1

As much as he isn't the same player (in terms of speed etc) as the Jako from ages ago, I'll still miss him heaps. :(

But at the same time, he is holding up young guys from becoming future icons at the club.

I'd just love to see Gassy or Stakes be the champion CHB like Jako was.
