James Boyd

I have only seen James Boyd once on TV and was impressed with his ball getting ability. His polling in the Magarey Medal and winning the medal in the Reserves and the Under Age medal as well confirms his ability. His size will be thrown up as too small for AFL. Has anyone seen him play? What do you think? Would he be considered by the Crows?

How old is he?

What is his height and weight (not that is a huge factor in judging his ability) but it helps to determine where he may spend the majority of his playing time.

have seen him a couple of times this year: he is a true old-fashioned rover

positives:

• gets the hard ball, in and under
• tough little bugger, can take a tackle/hit and bounces right up
• skillful, two sided, neat disposal
• elusive

negatives

• not lightning quick for an on-baller
• kicking lacks penetration

In short, without something that for a small guy would be a weapon at AFL level - such as extreme pace like Alwyn Davey - he may be a borderline prospect.

I'd love to see someone take a punt on him though, hopefully Adelaide. He's still only 19.

Very good player. In the mould of Jeremy Clayton (although still a way to go to be that good). Will be an outstanding player at State league level and worth a punt at AFL level for a club looking for a small, tough, in and under rover.

Sounds more like "Bucky" Cunningham, except Bucky's kicking didn't lack penetration.

Yeah hes a good player. Not sure if he'd be suited to AFL type footy as he isnt overly pacey but hes super courageous and knows how to find the ball. Ive said a couple of times but he was involved in probably the biggest football collision ive seen.
