I know he's no longer a saint but I think we should acknowledge the work of Gwilty especially during 2009 and 2010 as he is about to play game 150
Agreed - and without being nasty at all, I think the move was good for him, and for us. Not that he didn't have his moments of greatness as a Saint, and I loved seeing him kick a goal from 60 on the odd occasion.

He steadily improved throughout his career to the point that he was a contender for our B&F in 2011 before he did his ACL. Unfortunately his already ordinary speed and agility got even worse after that, he lost confidence in his kicking and was regularly played as a FB which pretty much rendered him a liability. I'm glad he's been able to keep playing regular footy for Essendon and his last month or so has actually been pretty good.

He's done incredibly well for a smokey draft pick in the 60s from Noble Park. Will never forget his crucial cameo in the 2005 qualifying final.

Jimmy Gwilt was a great player for us and he deserves all the kudos and our congratulations on playing 150 games.

Essendon offers him a lifeline along with Cooney incase the AFL Tribunal banned half there side. That didn't happen but Jimmy still played his role and when the bans came through this year from CAS Jimmy is holding their defence together, such as it is. He never panics, just goes about his business defending as best he can.

Id say he never fully recovered from the knee he was probably leading our B&F in 2011 before he went down, came back and never got the speed back..

2011 was such a shitshow of a season i never want to revisit.

I still wonder what could've been if we won that first game against Geelong and had a season like theirs with no Lenny and Gwilt ACL

True. While I'm not a fan of post-mortem wishful thinking in the week after a game, there's nothing at all wrong, and a little bit of catharsis in doing that to lost seasons. :)

Personally think his best game was about his second or 3rd maybe when we played the crowd at footy park and knocked them off in a qualifying or semi final I think it was, wearing the Candy Stripes so may have been 2004-05? Kicked a few goals and if I remember correctly a crucial one early or late. Should've kept him playing as a forward. Personally wasn't happy when they announced he had got the chop because I thought he had a lot too offer still, but whatever Chris Pelchen you got your spray at Adelaide oval that day! Gotta love the fro too!

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. He was in career best form when he did his knee and never really got back to that form. I think he was probably going to win our B&F if he saw out that 2011 year. Congrats Gwilty !!!
