I'd love to say that he's in our best 22 or that I have high hopes for him but I'm afraid I can't do that.

He didn't really impress much over the preseason although in fairness he was forced to play as a key defender in the absence of Hudghton, Maguire, Koschitzke, etc.

I'll never forget the impact he made in our qualifying final win over Adelaide a couple of years ago. Hopefully he can string some good form together at the Scorpions and force his way into our team. It's not something that I expect will happen but I would love to be proved wrong.

Plenty of potential, but ultimately ordinary and only played today because we're short of players who can play key defensive roles. He may hold his spot because of that, but wouldn't be a long term Supercoach buy!

played terribly yesterday. out of depth. i hope both he and jason blake never get a game for stkilda again

I thought Blake was fair for us yesterday - certainly not our worst.
He got a decent number of possessions, he hit targets, took a few grabs - if only we could say that about all our squad.

yeah that was probably one of his best games for stkilda but that is the problem. certainly we have better options than him, as for gwilt his lack of awareness and attack at the ball was the main problem and surely he couldnt play next week

i want to know why voss didnt come into the team.. Im pretty sure hes fully fit had som strong games in the vfl, would have been handy on lucas or loyd

I'm not sure if we'll see much more of Vossy as a defender anymore.

Thommo played him in attack last season, he played as a forward during the pre-season and has been used up forward in the VFL as well.

I'd definitely like to see him back in the team though.

As for Gwilt, I was hoping when I made my earlier comments that he'd improve and unforuntately yesterday he did nothing to change my opinion. Being his first AFL game for the year you'd expect him to take some time to adjust to the pace of the game but again I'm not convinced that he's up to it..

Do I watch the same games as all these people who want to see Jason Blake thrown on the scrap heap? If only all 40-odd blokes on the St Kilda list were as honest as this bloke ...

I agree. Blake is a big improver for us this year and I reckon now he's getting some confidence and taking some marks, he'll find a regular spot in the team. Not every player out there can be a star!

Gwilt doesn't look good enough...

you guys are kidding yourselfs. yes jason blake may be a big improver but shit.. he still isnt anywhere near good enough for afl standards. ok maybe he can handle it as a fringe player when our side has 10+ injurys but for you to say he is in our best 22 is just stupid.

-Terrible awareness
-Terrible understanding of the game
-Terrible disposal by foot and hand
-Undersized for key position
-Not strong enough
-Not quick enough

By no means does every player have to be a star, but this guy just doesnt make the general standard. He obviously trys very hard and good on him but for the elite level he just isnt good enough and we will never win a premiership with him

And yet he's been pretty good so far this year ... and on form is certainly worth his place in the side. Both of our last 2 coaches (GT & RL) pick him in our senior team regularly, so they seem to rate him. You reckon they're wrong, and you're right?

everytime i watch him play i feel more and more correct

-Always runs to the right spot
-Huge motor
-Good mark
-Becoming a reliable kick
-Kicking goals
-Can play ANY role
-Great courage
-Gaining confidence
-Can play above his height
-Ruckwork this year has been good
-Would be top 5 in our B&F so far

I've been a huge Blake critic in the past but this year he looks like a different player. He has much more confidence, doesn't get beaten one-on-one and is using the footy very well. If he continues his current form he will cement his spot in the side and would easily finish top 10 in the B&F.

Try watching the game rather than forming your opinion from what drunken opposition supporters shout out at games.

I'm the same. I was a big critic about Blake before. I think he has suffered (as with BJ and X.Clarke) from a lack of a regular position on the field.

Obviously he's not a ruckman, so he shouldn't be judged too harshly on his time playing there.

I just have a feeling he is going to be a reliable player for us

With all due respect, my intuition tells me that you are probably the type of supporter who screams for Milne to be dropped every time he gets run down, but it quiet when he plays well or his "antics" come off ...

With Rix and Gwilt running around (both not AFL standard in my opinion), we can hardly put a line through Jason Blake at the moment.
