Just want to gather other Bluebaggers thoughts on the possibility of gaining 'so to be' out of favoured Geelong speedster James Kelly to MC Labour Park.

Possible Trade Baits for Kelly are:

Ryan Houlihan - rumoured that Geelong are interested in securing his services
Callum Chambers - has struggled for form and injury in his past couple years at Carlton and looks more than likely to be moved on
Troy Longmuir - a very talented footballer who can win a game off his own boot and play at either end is in the same situation as Chambers. Poor form and has had a very terrible injury run for the past couple years - especially this year!!
David Teague - is one of my favourite Carlton players but seems to be struggling with his pace and lack of height exposed at the elite level on big, KPP. I have enormous repsect for him and love the way he plays and goes about his footy. Would love for him and stay in 07 and cement his place in the side or find another opportunity elsewhere.
Ian Prendergast - is a bit of a hot and cold type of player who has really struggled with form and injury in his past few years at the club. Is a very fit and hard-working utility who can play anywhere on the ground, I believe he would be an extremely good player if he was able to manage his body and prevent injuries, become consistent and also cement a spot in the team. Maybe he could do that elsewhere. Like Teague, I love watching him play.

Thoughts???

Apart from Houlihan, none of those players would warrant a late draft pick let alone Kelly.

To get Kelly, Carlton would probably have to throw in a second rounder along with Houlihan.

I wouldn't have minded him in the PSD but as he appears to be contracted I can't see anyway he'll be at the blues next year.

James Kelly is a f*cken gutless hack....a heart the size of a split pea...

Troy Longmuir come on man, you are seriously on drugs, when has he ever won a game off his own boot?

Houlihan not a bad player but goes missing when the tough stuff starts

The other 2 are alright......but I wouldn't trade for Kelly, use your picks wisely my friend and build up your list again....a few years of pain still but the Baggers will be back....

Can't see Geelong trading him straight up when he has 2 years of his contract to run. We just don't have anything thats going to help them right now - they need stars to help them get into the competition elite and win big games.

Our only chance would be a mega-blockbuster deal, something along the lines of:

Geelong get: Brendan Fevola, pick 19
Carlton get: pick 6? (Geelong top draft pick), Kelly, Brad Ottens and Shannon Byrnes, pick 24

Thats a trade that would work for both teams - Carlton get 2 decent midfielders, plus a pick in the draft that would help us get Leuenberger, and Ottens to ruck in the meantime. Geelong get a star forward to complement Hawkins, which would catapult them in to premiership contention immediately, plus an upgrade on their second round pick. Of course, neither team would have the balls to swing that sort of trade, so its a moot point

Can have all of the last four plus Livo.........they could probably keep Kelly as well, but a 1 for five hack trade is not a bad deal..........

Hoops Will stay. Expect more tagging roles next year as his mantle of the most "skillful" player in the side gets passed on to Murphey and ?Gibbs...

His manager Liam Pickering said he'll be staying at Geelong- they're happy to persist with him and he's happy to stay.

Would only go after Kelly if we could get him in the PSD for nothing. Otherwise, he can stay at the cattery.

Denis likes to turn everyone into a tagger. Expect Murph to start tagging next year, Gibbs the year after.

Even suggesting Fev in a trade deal is silly :thumbsd:

You have got to be ****ing kidding me. How does that work for us. We get rid of the Coleman medalist, FFS.

There is 0% chance of this happening! Do you want us to progress in the next few years or not? Absurd!

Also, none of those trades are feasable, except for MAYBE a deal with Houlihan, but I doubt it.

I would let go of any of them for Kelly. Them 4 are spuds just filling space in the seconds and i dont knwo how hoolihan is still getting a game in the 1sts. I'd love kelly at Carlton.

Im quite sure Geelong wouldnt do that!!!!!!!!!!

Open ur eyes, Fev has had one great season - if thats his asking price we'll go after Tarrant or Bradshaw who would be equally as good at the Cats.

Think about it - why would we give our top 2 draft selections, 2 young midfielders, and a player were traded so aggressively for 2 years ago - to get a full forward whos at his best and is downhill from here and a 2nd round draft pick?

Kelly for pick 17 (or 19 or whatever something in the top 20) would be tempting. He won't get traded tho, he deserves a chance to show us what hes got after such a crappy season.

WOOOOOW STONEY. You are right that that trade is absurd and stupid for both clubs, however to say that Tarrant or Bradshaw would be equally good isn't right. At this very moment in time Fevola is the best full forward in the league by a mile he kicked 80 goals in a team that won 3 and a half games, in addition he was suspended for a game! Tarrant and Bradshaw arn't in Fevv's class.

Pick 17 in this draft for a player who wasn't even getting a regular game in your side and you admit had a crappy season- no chance. We've already said we won't be trading those picks under any circumstances anyway.

Agreed but I believe Stoney has tacitly admitted this which is why he said 'as good at the Cats'. To get Fev we'd have to give up a lot more than we would to lure Bradshaw and as for Tarrant, forget that, we've just gotten rid of a Kingsley, why would we want another one. Kelly will stay at Geelong IMO, but really needs to lift his game.
