I've had reservations about Kelly - too often the show pony - but he earned bonus points from me yesterday. Hope he keeps up the standard he set - cannot recall him being so effective - (stats mean BA) - really hard at the ball for a change. Good on him!:thumbsu:

yes Kelly's problem since he broke his leg is that he has been hesitant to go in hard at the ball making him look soft. Hopefully that is a thing of the past now.

Come back in a few years, after Blake has played more than 19 games and then we'll pass judgment.

Based on what? What he did 5 years ago?

No, based on the fact that King can kick the ball, push back and mark in the defensive 50, and still contest the ruck contests just as effectively as Blake.

Blake can tap the ball, and sometimes the ball will bounce to him and if he can't run away from it and it ends up in his hands - he'll run around in circles looking to handball it to a player (who more often than not is sold into trouble because they recieve the ball with their opponent in close check).

Even in 2007 I rate King over Blake - who knows - in 2008 or beyond I may have egg on my face and Blake may be a gun, but give me Kingy any day of the week.

At the start of the year l would've have put james kelly in geelong best 22 at this point in time he playing well and about bloody time too. he still needs to work on he kicking in to the 50........ and players like selwood, prismall, little monty, putting pressure on him

The last few weeks he has been hard at the ball, something i have never associated James Kelly with. Maybe it has taken him that long to gain confidence after his broken leg. And i think its the same with Woja who the last few weeks is really putting on the pace.
Go Cats still along way to go yet.

what is the basis for a herald sun clanger?

kelly only had one against his name but he missed a target more than once.

anyone?

I believe it is giving the ball up by hand or foot to an opponent. Free kicks against are also usually included.

If you simply miss a target but it doesn't go to an opponent I think that's just an ineffective possession.

Even given that definition the clanger count would seem very low.Kelly played a great game and because of the blustery conditions every one was missing targets, including Junior.

exactly, I watched the game again yestyerday and a fair proportion of his kicks went straight to freo players....needs to work on this

Yeah, I watched the game last night, and his attack on the ball was the best I've seen for several years, he was reading the play well and getting into space, but his skills are still so poor. He was missing players all over the ground, both by hand and foot, both long and short passes.
He looks skilful, but beginning to wonder if he actually is.
Sure, it was windy and other players were missing targets, but I'm positive he was missing more proportionately than others.
