Finally a trade in the NBA.

* Denver sent James Posey to Houston
* Houston sent Kenny Thomas to Philly
* Philly sent Art Long, Mark Bryant and a first round pick to Denver. (Denver also get a second round pick from Houston).

i think Houston are the big losers in this deal.

They give up their best PF and a draft pick for an inconsistent swingman who is a FA at seasons end.

Denver will suffer in the short term, but they have done really well. Trading a guy they would have lost anyway, for 2 draft picks and some junk.

Philly would also be rapt with the deal. They finally get a solid rebounder to fill the void left by Deke.

Meanwhile, Denver's roster now consists of three guards, period.

Their two starters are now Vincent Yarborough (101 minutes all year) and Lorinza Harrington (17 mpg), with their third guard, Chris Whitney injured.

Their 12 man roster now has 3 guards, 8 power forwards and 1 centre.

They do not have 1 SF on their roster, farking amazing.

This team is in tatters. I hope for Kiki's sake, they can make use of their cap room and extra draft picks, otherwise we will continue to see the worst, most imbalanced roster ever.

Houston. Big, big winners.

Francis - Norris
Mobley - Hawkins
Posey - Rice - Morris
Taylor - Griffen
Yao - Cato

Scary, indeed.

i think the rockets did ok...

k.thomas was also going to be a FA ad seasons end.. their best PF yes, but inconsistent this yr... m.taylor untradeable (injuries, fat-arse contract)... get j.posey, who give give a real rugged defensive presence that the rockets lack..

and a chance for e.griffen to step up.. (whom i've just added again to my yahoo team :P)

The Nuggets are the real winners. They get rid of Posey who they would have lost anyway at seasons end and they pick up a couple of draft picks. With Posey out of the way it also gives the Nuggets pretty much what they need to secure the worst record in the NBA....giving them the best shot at 'Bron.

They have rediculous amounts of money to spend in the FA market next season but it could all go horribly wrong for them if they miss out on the number 1 pick next season. By the way the team with the worst record in the NBA hasnt claimed the No.1 pick since 91 I think.

But if they do miss it and in turn miss James, even with all their money, who is gonna wanna come and play for Denver??? Nobody. If they do get the No.1 pick and James then they have some leverage. A gamble which we will have to wait until draft night next season to find out if it pay's off.

Not sure why Houston would want Posey?

As for Philly and Thomas, Im hoping Thomas slips straight into the starting 4 gig. With Van Horn at the 3, AI at the 2 and Snow at the point. McKie to come off the bench. That's what I hope anyway, for fantasy points :D

There are two upcoming Free Agents who desperately want to play together, only one team is capable of accomodating both of them.

Think about it.

If Milicic gets his exception and gets into the '03 draft... Denver will get either him or James. Plus let's say, best case scenario in signing Kidd and Duncan... well...

exactly. that would be the ideal, but thomas will probably start off from the bench. houston should start posey at sf, cos rice isn't what he used to, and griffin at pf can get the 3's which rice currently contributes.

You got to be crazy if you think Houston lost.

Posey brings great defence, can score, and is still young. I doubt he would cost alot to re-sign.

Washington wanted him badly at the start of the season, and they must be spewing that he has gone so cheap.

This also opens minutes @ Houston for Mo Taylor and Eddie Griffin.

The picks Denver are using cant be used till 2005.. and is lottery protected (Its the Jiri Welsh for future first rd pick) from Golden State.

Denver are pathetic.. they also waived Satterfield.. I guess Hilario or Howard will be used for back up point guard.

Houston certainly didnt lose but I think Denver will be the real winners if they claim the No.1 pick.

Regarding Duncan and Kidd. I doubt they would both leave there teams to go to Denver. Either Kidd moves to SA or Duncan to NJ.

Kidd, Duncan and James....that would be scary though.

This trade shouldnt of gone ahead... the NBA accepted it, and then realised Art Long couldnt be traded for another 11 days.. after the trade was complete.

But the NBA in the end said the trade would not be cancelled

Here is what the trade was first going to look like

Blazers get:
Swift

Nuggets get:
Antonio Daniels
future 1st rounder(from Portland)

Grizz get:
Kenny Thomas

Rockets get:
James Posey

Hubie didnt want Thomas, so the initial trade collapsed.
