Fall Out Boy

What did we all think of Rahilly's game today?

I thought he was quite good generally, but it's time he (and the coach) decide whether he's a stopper or a ball-winner.

When playing on the very punchable Jeff Farmer, you need to play tight, not fly for marks, and chase kicks.

Despite Rahilly doing well individually, Farmer kicked three, and directly set up another 3.

We can't afford to allow players like him, so many chances.

So what is it James, stopping defender, or kick chaser?

He's a stopper. Not only does he present himself as another tagging option, but generally speaking his disposal isn't clean enough to play loosely as a rebounding defender.

He should be a stopper, but he certainly wasn't today.

Was more concerned about kick chasing, than he was about Farmer.

If he's there as a stopper, he needs to sacrifice his own game to stop his opponent, not go up in marking contests, whilst his opponent sits 10 metres behind the pack.

He can't do both, if he wants to play an attacking role, we need another tagger.

I wouldn't mind copping a 2 week suspension for belting the crap out of Jeff Farmer, especially after the way he carried on today.

Rahilly's game in defence was alright, and although his main role is to stop his direct opponent from kicking goals, he also needs to be creative when he has the ball. I don't think any team can afford to have players in their line up who don't offer any attacking force when they have the ball.

Thank god Mooney is a changed man.I wouldn't have blamed him for snotting Farmer.

Rahilly is a sheep dog.

Has little to no awareness of his player, but regrettably, I'd have to say he has more awareness than Rooke.

This isn't meant to offend anybody, but I think a blind person has more awareness than Jarad Rooke.

Farmer got a couple of soft-ish goals

They were only soft goals because Rahilly chose to fly for the mark, rather than doing his job on Farmer.

If he'd stayed down, like he should, Farmer wouldn't have kicked 3 goals, and wouldn't have delivered the ball to 3 other goalkickers.

If Rahilly was playing as a ball winner, i'd have said his game was great, however he was there to stop Farmer, which he didn't do.

A blind person has more awareness than David Spriggs. I'm amazed no one has yet mentioned Spriggsy's name.

I think thats a bit unfair. he did well i thought last night. He undoubtably would have been told to take advantage of farmers lack of defence, and run off (kick chasing).
It is also possible that he was told to give taller deffenders a chop out with their opponents and be the "third man up".
Although I do agree that he needs to have more awareness, i think his mistakes weren't all his fault.

His direct opponent kicked 3 goals, and set up 3 others. Regardless of what Rahilly does with the footy, his job was to stop Farmer, which he failed at.

If that was the case, he shouldn't have been on Farmer in the first place.

Not even Thompson would be silly enough to tell a small tagger to fly for everything, whilst leaving his man totally free to crumb at will.
