I thought Angry Boys was just all over the place. It'll end up being forgotten in his cannon because it didn't have much consistency.

The bad episodes were absolutely woeful but the best ones, mostly the first, were really good. The Asian skater and his mum was literally shit-humour and it fell flat and felt awkward to watch because it was so immature and bad. Blake Oakfield was really good, though. That "shot in the balls" and fight with Pako episode was one of the best he's ever done... there was something so spot on about all of that. I grew up on a coastal town where the irrelevant 'surf culture' was still hanging on by the tattered zip string of West wetty, so that wanky character of overgrown boys and pricks with over-inflated egos was piss-funny. It just struck a cord. So too did the brothers from Dunt.

He's a really good critique of Australian culture. And that's what we genuinely need. That's what the ABC and SBS should be for – not pissweak dramas and poor acting. You should be able to take the piss out of these uniquely, but absolutely awful, shards of our culture. And no one in the industry really seems to understand and dissect that as well as him. Currently, at least.

The fact kids at my school didn't get S.Mouse was a piss take and Jonah wasn't supposed to actually be seen as "tough" or "cool" sadly concretes how good his assessment and portrayals can be.

Besides, no show got anyone talking more than Chris Lilley shows. I remember everyone would talk about last nights ep back in high school. It was always a gut-buster when everyone would pipe up with lines and "did you see the bit"'s and "oh remember when"'s. More of that.

The worst part of Angry Boys is the lack of realism.

Why was the documentary crew filming those people before they even knew of the party?

While I get what you mean, I guess it's a weak thing to attack a comedy show for. To be honest, I was dissecting the immediate parts of its errors and had completely glossed over it. A good point and a glaring issue, but maybe... an irrelevant one?

Relevant for me.

I agree with your other points too. I liked Oakfield.

Yeah I remember that. I was sitting in English class in the morning the day after a Summer Heights High ep was released. You know the one where that kid goes to the office because he called a year 8 kid a ranga.

The teacher was literally "OMG my favourite part was when Jonah called that kid a ranga!" and everyone just stared at me and laughed...

I have some trepidation here given how hit and miss angry boys was
bringing back J'amie and Jonah will be good but sometimes it is better to leave things well enough alone.

the story arc in angry boys was really ambitious - how he drew all of the threads together - I just didn't think it was well executed and there were some unwatchable moments

summer heights high worked because there were three manageable story lines that didn't really intersect so were all quite contained. I hope the next series works but you never like seeing someone going back to the well with a new idea (then using the same old characters)

Did you post this before you watched Derek?

I probably posted it AS I watched Derek.

Painful viewing.

And I say that as somebody with The Office, Extras and The Ricky Gervais Show likely all in my personal top ten.

How many times can he do the same character. I'd rather see whole series based on Ricky Wong, and that would be shit.

Solid. Not bad not great. Some amusing scenes with the parents and the country kids lol. Some really average stuff though

God how cringe was that bloke at the bus stop? hope we dont see much of him.

pretty boring 1st episode it feel forced as hell most of the comedy.

If that kid is the Jonah of this show then this a massive fail. The whole hashtag ..... , yolo and everything like that has been done before and the dancing stuff was on Summer Heights. So far there's nothing new to see here.

This show just feels like it is trying too hard. Most of it has been done before. The only scene that was amusing was the fight with the borders. The supporting characters look to be average, that kid at the bus stop . Having said that, many good shows have had average pilots and not much happened in that episode so I will be watching on next week.

I thought it was 199% better than Angry Boys.

Not LOL but more chuckles.

Vagatarian.

Yes.

Only so many times one can go to the same well though...
