He already has been ?
yeh, but upgraded rookies get downgraded back onto the rookie list at season's end, so have to make it official by reupgrading them.

i hope this doesn't mean all the other rookies are gone; there's still hope for them to be retained.

Wouldn't this make it more likely that the other rookies will be retained, since there will be an extra spot on the rookie list now that Petrenko isn't on it?

I don't think it means anything for the other 3 rookies other than it's obvious that unlike Petrenko they are not going to be upgraded this year.

Moss is a certainty to be retained on the rookie list IMO. Not so sure about Martin and Curnow though.

How likely do you guys think it is we will also elevate Moss from the rookie list? Really like his disposal by foot and seems to have a bit of poise about him which would come very handy with our new look engine room.

When it comes to Petrenko....Ive kinda been living under a stone! sooooo I don't really know what he brings to the table as far as far as talent is concerned!!! Can ya fill me in with what position he plays? and what his talent is like

like macca23 says, with only the announcement of Petrenko's upgrading, it seems unlikely anyone else will be upgraded; otherwise they would've announced it, right. there's still a chance for the others to be retained...Moss seems likely, while Curnow would be an outside chance IMO. no idea what the club think though. i'd say keep at least 1, as Burton would be on the longterm injury list for most of next year anyway.

I would argue that it gives someone like Curnow more chance of being retained. I don't know how many we can have on our rookie list next year, I think it's 6 excluding Donnelly but I'm not sure. For argument's sake, let's say it's 6.

Now if Petrenko doesn't get upgraded, he would have been retained. I'll work on the assumption Moss is retained as well. That would leave 4 spots for Curnow, Martin and whoever the Crows pick up in the rookie draft. If they want 4 picks in the rookie draft, they have to get rid of both Curnow and Martin.

Now that Petrenko has been upgraded, it leaves 5 spots for Curnow, Martin and whoever the Crows pick up in the rookie draft. If they want 4 picks, they can still hang onto Curnow or Martin.

So for someone like Ed Curnow who has shown enough in the last couple of months to borderline justify another year on the rookie list, this is great news, because it means that it effectively gives the Crows another rookie pick without your neck being on the chopping block.

Good point about Burton being on the long term injury list for most of next year.

That certainly enhances the chance of us taking a mature SANFL forward such as Grima or Callinan on our rookie list for insurance purposes.

I'm pretty sure that Donnelly counts in the 6.That leaves 4 spots after Moss and Donnelly.

If we retain both Curnow and Martin that would only leave 2 spots to fill - that won't happen.

If we retain one, then that leaves us 3 picks. That might happen, given that there is likely to be far more picks in the draft than normal.

If we retain none, then that gives us 4 picks in the rookie draft - normally our standard amount.

At best one of Curnow and Martin will survive IMO.

If we decide to pick a ready made forward from the SANFL as one of our rookies then both will be gone IMO.

Agreed on what you said macca23. What I'm saying is that if Petrenko hadn't been upgraded, it would only leave 3 spots to fill after Moss, Donnelly and Petrenko. Since he has been upgraded, there are 4 spots to fill after Moss and Donnelly - as you pointed out in your post.

Given that we will use at least 3 picks in the rookie draft, it would be the death knell for Curnow and Martin if Petrenko wasn't upgraded. Since Petrenko has been upgraded, there is a chance that either Curnow or Martin will stay on the rookie list, as there will be 4 spots to fill rather than 3.

So Petrenko being upgraded makes it more likely that we will retain one of these guys.

Petrenko will play AFL in 2009 :thumbsu:

Moss must be retained as a rookie, IMO he is a super talent and will be upgraded sometime in 2009

I think it's 6 spots you can use for either rookies and veterans?

With veterans no more than 2?

Not 100% sure as you can tell ;)

I think it has to do with all the concessions the Gold Coast is getting, like you though, not 100% sure ;)

Apparently the number of rookies has been increased by two this year as part of the coming Gold Coast concessions.

This allows for 2 veterans and 6 rookies.
