i hope this doesn't mean all the other rookies are gone; there's still hope for them to be retained.

Wouldn't this make it more likely that the other rookies will be retained, since there will be an extra spot on the rookie list now that Petrenko isn't on it?
like macca23 says, with only the announcement of Petrenko's upgrading, it seems unlikely anyone else will be upgraded; otherwise they would've announced it, right. there's still a chance for the others to be retained...Moss seems likely, while Curnow would be an outside chance IMO. no idea what the club think though. i'd say keep at least 1, as Burton would be on the longterm injury list for most of next year anyway. How likely do you guys think it is we will also elevate Moss from the rookie list? Really like his disposal by foot and seems to have a bit of poise about him which would come very handy with our new look engine room.
I don't think it means anything for the other 3 rookies other than it's obvious that unlike Petrenko they are not going to be upgraded this year.

I would argue that it gives someone like Curnow more chance of being retained. I don't know how many we can have on our rookie list next year, I think it's 6 excluding Donnelly but I'm not sure. For argument's sake, let's say it's 6.
Now if Petrenko doesn't get upgraded, he would have been retained. I'll work on the assumption Moss is retained as well. That would leave 4 spots for Curnow, Martin and whoever the Crows pick up in the rookie draft. If they want 4 picks in the rookie draft, they have to get rid of both Curnow and Martin.
Now that Petrenko has been upgraded, it leaves 5 spots for Curnow, Martin and whoever the Crows pick up in the rookie draft. If they want 4 picks, they can still hang onto Curnow or Martin.
So for someone like Ed Curnow who has shown enough in the last couple of months to borderline justify another year on the rookie list, this is great news, because it means that it effectively gives the Crows another rookie pick without your neck being on the chopping block.
the crows normally only have 4 rookies a year...has the rookie listing capacity been increased to 6? or has it always been like this?

I think it's 6 spots you can use for either rookies and veterans?
With veterans no more than 2?
Not 100% sure as you can tell![]()
