Blair did win the Morrish medal as the best player in the TAC Cup.
There was no doubt the kid could play.
The only thing most recruiters were concerned about was his height.
Same thing happened with Rodan. No one wanted him because of his height despite also winning the Morrish medal.
We took the punt on him and the kid has delivered.
Boomer Harvey goes OK despite his height.
It's just amazing how many rookies have become stars at Collingwood. :thumbsu:

you make a good point about the rookies,
for a lot of teams they have lead to some great quality players, not sure why the AFLPA wants to get rid of them (obviously the low pay, but surely that could just be boosted?)

essentially players that are drafted as rookies and make it to AFL level come away as hard working players loyal to the club that gave them a chance when no one else would

Brad Dick will come into our best 22. Blair will not be the one to make way if he maintains this type of form. That's not about kicking 5 goals but if he can chip in with 1 or 2 a game as a small forward, and continues the other things he brings to the table, like winning the contested in close footy in the forward line, tackle pressure and underrated disposal and decision making, he'll be best 22 all year.

Blair has a real Ben McGlynn look about him and not just because of his size. Many consider him a fringe player but wasn't until he went to the Swans that people realised how good a player he is. He'd be in Hawthorns best 22 now.

Yeah, I think if they got rid of rookies, while teams would be able to have more players on their list, because there would be no restrictions (rookies are initially on 2 year contracts etc) I'd say the turnover wouldn't be as great and less players would be picked each year. I think a better way about it would be to increase rookie wages to match 1st year players.
