i have been trying to find info on these boys and have found that they are eligible under the father/son rule in the next 2 years.

i know Jarryd is a very promising kp foward but don't know his exact size.

have also heard that Cale is the most promsing of the three mortons but have know idea what position he plays.

west coast seem very excited about picking these three boys up under the father/son. the more i find out the more excited im getting... anymore info you guys have will be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Do you know when their birthdays are?

Are they both going to be eligible next year? or did you just guess? there is a possible problem of Cale not being eligible because our WAFL f/s agreement expires in 2007. it would be nice if we could get him 2006.

Jarryd is around is a KPP 190-192cm mark (i think).
Cale plays a similar role to mitch through the midfield (i think).

Cale is in the State Schoolboys which is for 15yr olds.
He is already 190cm and will likely play as a key position player or even in the Ruck.
This of course doesn't generally mean that this will continue. Ala Judd at 189cm.
He has very good composure under pressure and often doesn't just give the ball away under pressure but looks for a good option. Has good hands and for a big kid he has the Morton footskills.
The upcoming championship will give a good indication of how he goes against some other talented 15yr olds.
Look at the website stateschoolboys.com.au around 20 July.

Early days yet, but from what we've seen of Mitch the morton clan could be a pretty handy series of additions for the side- given our relative success on field over the last few years and draft pick trading for Chick and Stenglein, you'd expect that a few years down the track (about '07 '08) we'd run into trouble with our young stocks, but if we nab a trio of decent FS now it will tide us over nicely.

does anyone who knows anything about the draft rules and cales birthdate know for a fact that we are going to be able to snare him? or will he bee too late.

if hes 15, then he may be eligible in 2007 depending on his birthdate

if hes not we could go to the AFL and ask nicely whether cale can nominate for the draft a few months early. they may let it through if both his brothers are with us, also on account of him not having to leave the state and he can finish school, and we could promise not to play him until after the minimum date anyway

thats the thing. if cale's birthday is before April then he will be fine. But, if it isnt then we may have a problem because he would have to go in the next years draft. Having said that, you can apply for an exemption on this. 3-4 players i know of did last year. I think his birthday will still need to fall before june. Any later then i think the AFL will say he has to go in the next years draft.

Mitch was born in january. lets hope the parents planned the other 2 the same way.

The sunday times seemed pretty sure he and jarryd were eligible. Im not sure if that was because it was true or they are shabby journalists who dont investigate the fact and just presume.

actually, we have another possible f/s in shawn colbung. he looks very promising, will play for WA in the u18 champs. his dad played 150 games for East Perth BUT he played them well into the 90's. The rule states the father must have played the games between 1967 and 1987. I dont know why it needs to be like that but it is.

there is a thread on efh, drafts board about shawn.

yeah, i wonder if the mortons had a copy of the draft rules next to the bed during conception...

:D maybe.

myself and my siblings have an early birthday because my parents thought it would advantage us at school. all i was saying is that maybe the Mortons were thinking along the same lines (not for footy reasons) with mitch being born in January like myself .

Does anyone know what the new F/S rule will be changed to in 2007?

Re. Shawn Colbung

I played with him at Colts level in Albany. He is a phenominal talent! Just oozed class. Whenever he got the ball he made footy look really easy. Has some VERY good football smarts, just knows where the ball is going to go
