Great post...Gears seems like the type of bloke who was always overlooked. He's a talented player, he won the B&F for Bendigo in 2006 as a teammate of Joel Selwood's but was overlooked in the draft then taken with pick 58 at the 2007 Rookie Draft. Took him 7 years to reach 100 games.

I've always enjoyed supporting the underdog, always felt a soft spot for blokes who give their all to the cause but never get the plaudits they deserve. I've always been a massive fan of Gears and now he's showing everyone how much of a player he can be/is becoming.

Lyon Syndrome
But I don't think you are correct. Geary trains hard and the coaches seem to favor him.

2008: Geary 10 games, Armitage 13 games, Eddy 13 games, Charlie Gardner 12 Games, L Fisher 9 Games , Fiora 10 games.
2009: Geary 15 games, Armitage 3 games, Eddy 10 games, Steven 1 game
2010: Geary 19 games, Armitage 9 games, Eddy 10 games, Steven 8 games

He then pretty much took over Baker's spot after Baker was shoved out the door. ( and owned it ).

Much of the reason Armo didn't get a gig is because our midfield was Hayes, Dal Santo, Ball, Montagna

It was more when it came to the crunch though, in the big games.

Gears or Armo couldn't get a gig in either grand final, even when Baker had a broken toe and Robert Eddy a broken cheekbone.

That mark, those goals and that great interview this morning - I have never roasted him, although have been frustrated at some turnovers like many. Have appreciated and valued his endeavour more, that means a lot to me, so many more talented players go around head down when things are not going their way, never this man. Seems to have found a new, well, "gear"!!

I'll do something here most people on this board wont. I'll admit I haven't been the biggest fan of Geary, this year he has been growing on me tough, and after yesterdays game, wow wee, those 2 goals ! awesome !

A team full of players with Geary's attitude and approach would never lose a game.
