I have high hopes for this kid. He has a good pair of hands and is a fantastic kick. The short time he was trialed at CHB he showed he also has lovely skills for a big man.

Alas, T.Wallace in his wisdom has flagged his intentions to play him as a forward. As such, I ask, as Schulz enters his 5th AFL season, what would be an acceptable return from the young man.

IMO, if playnig forwad, he needs to kick a minumum of 35 goals, somewhere between 35-50 would be a good return. I think, given a full season he is very much capable. To this point, a combiniation of injury and lack of confidence has conspired against him, but I reckon his time is coming, and could well be 2007

if he plays foward i would like some more consistancy then last year where he would start well in the first quater but then go missing for the rest of the match

needs to lose the long sleeve and get a bit nasty

he is 22 and hasnt really put on much size, reminds me of fev but just needs to get stronger in the contest

5 kicks 2 goals is good for krak but not a KP forward

needs to lift

Just needs to stay fit. He's had an unbelievable run of bad luck with injury. Just when he puts a few good games together he gets injured. I wish him luck- it could be break out year for him if he can stay on the paddock for the majority of the year.

Do you every have anything good to say about anyone???

Schulz is a great size considering the amount of injuries he has has, and as long as he can add those 2 goals to the scoreboard I don't care how many possies he gets, sure we would love for him to get 10-15 even 20 a game but he just hasn't had enough time to work on his fitness after being injured for so long.

I think by either this year or the next he could become our major goalkicker before or just after Richo.

from what I've seen, I don't really rate him that much.

seems to be injury prone, does stupid things on the field, fades in and mostly out of games. I still don't know what his best position is!!!!

Get rid of that long sleeve, and lift your game.

The last few years he's been earmarked for CHB. Now Polak is here, where will Schulz play?

In the forward line where he belongs. He's been tried down back. If he was earmarked for CHB then Bowden and now Polak wouldn't be playing there.

He actually does help Richo in the forward line leading his opponent away, creating space, blocking, protection. It's not easy to shine in a forward line when Richo is the focus.

He needs to assert himself, demand the ball and our midfielders need to kick it to him if he's in a better position than Richo.

what the **** is your problem

first of all he is not a great size, fair enough he has had injuries but if you actually watch games he is very weak in the contest, remember the hamill thing when he got smashed that shouldnt happen to a KP forward normally hamill likes to target the small men

under 10 possesions a game is just not good enough when you are getting about 3 quarters of gametime, the more he gets the ball the more time its in our forward line if you didnt know

hows your boy roachy going :thumbsd:

Shutlz can play, has a great mark on him and a deadly straight kick. He is not soft at the ball and from what i have seen is one of our few forwards who actually puts pressure on the defence when they are trying to run the ball out, if only half our team could bulk up the way deledio did last pre season, maybe then we can start putting some physical pressure on oppostion teams.

As someone said its hard for shultz to kick 3+ goals a game with the richo been the key in our forward line

Not if Schulz is identified and utalised as another key forward.

You cannot be a contender with one key forward. For example Sydney has a great combination, in Micky O and Hall, Hall kicks 65+ goals whilst Micky O can bag btween 35-50.

I actually agree with you on this one, Schulz needs to get more of the ball, sure Richo will take a fair hunk of the inside 50's but Schulz should not be disappearing for whole quarters at a time. He needs to lift and get a bigger engine so, as Richo gets older and starts to cherry pick, Schulz can lead up the ground and get the ball for himself.

Under 10 possessions a game, at the moment, I attribute to Richmond's tunnel vision to Richo.

I can see a bit of trial and error happening shuffling sarge and polly back and forward to see what works....good prob to have :thumbsu:
Rose coloured glasses there pal ... the problem is getting a few good consistent games out of Schulz . At the crossroads well and truly .

Needs to show he is worth retaining this year or adios

the summer should be spent trying to work out how to make Richo and Shultz work together in the foward line, and making our midfield capable of looking past richos leads

Yep

I think Schulz is a full forward. I dont think he will be a CHF taking marks on the wing. One major strength is his pack marking, which is better used inside forward 50

Oh Christ!
I don't give a **** about Tom Roach I know he isn't going to be playing for Richmond next year, but he will be in an AFL side.

Thats weak saying that Schultzy shouldn't have been injured from that Hamill tackle, Hamill is one of the hardest players going around ATM, he is 94kg and has the strength of about 150kg, anyone getting tackled but Hamill is going to feel it.

Yes Schultzy does need to get mroe possies but if he is kicking 2-3 goals a game it doesnt really matter does it?
He will be able to run more and collect more possies once he gets some fitness under his belt, he hasn't even played one full season yet, so give him a chance, everyone think Moore should be given a chance when he has shown less that Schultz and he is older than him.

Need a big-preseason. Get buff and come out firing.

Having Polak will help Schultz alot.

Here or interstate, I heard maybe Perth.

Dunno, his dad won't tell anyone.

He has been asked to train with a side, Melbourne-based though.

I'm guessing the Western Bulldogs but I really don't know.
He would fit into there game plan.

He will most likely be a Rookie.

25 Jay Schulz ...

he has potenial we all know that !

but obviously, where is his best position ?

CHB ???

FF ???

i like him at FF ! but was inconsistant there in 2006.
