Rappers such as?

I'm away from home and stuck on the slowest internet connection of all time but a couple of random suggestions:

I Who Have Nothing by Jedi Mind Tricks

and

Point of No Return by Immortal Technque

Listen to them on youtube and tell me they don't rhyme better than Jay Z...

Hmmm, a bit too rap for me... like the lyrics to 'point of no return' though. Jay-Z is more my style... But i suppose your a Freo supporter; it is an unwritten law that we shall never agree on anything! ;)

I'm lovin my discovery of this music board.

A jay-z fan aint a jay-z fan until they've listened to reasonable doubt, well regarded as his best album and for good reason. solid all the way through. might not be easy to get into if you're just a commercial fan though.

same deal with nas and illmatic.

Reasonable Doubt IS Jay-Z's best album.

Illmatic is awesome but Street's Disciple is like Illmatic on roids. SD>Illmatic, just.

As a casual rap fan, but big Jay-Z fan i would recommend working from most recent albums backwards if you like the blueprint 3. Going in this order.

Blueprint 3
American Gangster
The Black Album (my fav)
The Blueprint
Reasonable Doubt

I realise there are more albums but that's his best work IMO.

Yeh great album, the best mashup version of that I've heard is Mick Boogie's combining marvin gaye tracks with American gangster tracks

incredibly soulful.

Thanks for the tip, the mix of Hello Brooklyn and Sexual Healing is ace.

oh god, no.

lol wat.. if anything, stillmatic is the closest that comes to illmatic. streets disciple is a good one but hip hop is dead, untitled, god's son, stillmatic, it was written are all better albums.

is SD was one cd instead of two it'd probably be rated higher. a lot of throw away tracks.

as for jay, i actually rate blueprint as his best album, followed by reasonable doubt.

anyways, each his own.

Something about alicia keys does it for me in the empire state of mind video, possibly her bouncing while playing the piano.
