hey guys,

im a doggies supporter but i thought i'd start a thread about Jayden Attard.

I've followed this fellas career pretty closely, along with a couple of other boys i played alongside down at the dandenong stingrays a few years back.

i think his is a fantastic story. you don't see too many fellas get delisted by a club after 6 games, then get rookie listed by another powerful club, get promoted, and line up in round one.

a credit to the kid and all his hard work over the pre season.

thought his shut down job on davey was great last night.
and looked very good himself in a few isolated passages.

ross lyon looks like he's taken the young fella under his wing and is trying to carve out a long term position for him for his career. the tagging role might just be it, because with all due respect he was never blessed with exceptional kicking ability. just serviceable ability.

good on the kid
im really gunning for him.

thoughts?

i was very impressed by him. it really helps stkilda's matchups if he can take out dangerous forward pocket/half forward types as it free's up baker to tag the #1 opposition midfeilder. lyon obviously a big fan of him and i think he might be a decent find even if he is in and out of the team

Good thread Luke.

It's definitely an amazing story.

I think the biggest thing to it is that after playing a handful of games for the Lions and delisted he was overlooked by every club in the national draft, every club in the pre-season draft and every club in the rookie draft. We selected him with our 6th pick in the rookie draft.

In the practice matches it was his fellow rookie Clinton Jones that had attracted all of the headlines but Ross Lyon has put his faith him since day one and known full well what he was capable of and he delivered on Friday night. As Pol06 said above not only did he shut Davey down but he freed up Bakes to play on Travis Johnstone. Personally I love seeing Bakes in amongst it in the centre of the ground and Attard (and Jason Blake for that matter) now give us the flexibility to shut down a host of opposition players while allowing Hayes, Ball, Dal Santo and Harvey to do what they do best.

I know Melbourne were the team to attract the headlines for their poor display but there some great signs for us. I just love the tackling and the in and under work. Some great signs!

Pretty much agree, if he stays interested he'll be a great recruit. We've been a little lacking in small defenders/taggers for a few years, that's why Bakes is such an important player. Looks like Attard could be as good as Baker and that would be perfect for us.

As another impartial spectator, I also thought Attard played a very good game, He made Davey look mediocre.

A nice scalp to have when starting out with a new club, good luck to the lad. :thumbsu:

I too think he played quite well but i dunno i wouldn't be reading too much into it he would have been ****ting himself first game new club and what not i would like to see him in the comming weeks acting off impulse rather than adrenaline.

**** can't he move well though!!!
