2nds Jayden Post

Like a few Tigerheads yesterday, i watched the VFL game. I would like an honest review from people out there who watched Jaydens game. From what i have seen of this kid over time and yesterday again, is a player who has hard hands, has poor awarness, and little consistency in his game.
I hate to say it, but i can't see this kid progressing past the Burgers. He (IMO) is stamped with the Cleve Hughes stamp of unfulfilled potentual.
He aint gonna make it.:(

Interesting one.

IMO he needs to find a set position and work on it. What position best suits him?
Up forward we have Jack, Vickery (who can play second ruck big +) and then Griffiths is the other one.

Down back we have McGuane, Moore, Rance, Thursfield, Grimes and Gourdis to compete with.

Honestly, i would offer him to either GWS, Saints or Geelong for a pick. Right now we could trade on potentual, another couple of years of this, and he'll be a clogger.

For the record, i have started this thread as a serious debate/conversation, not a negative rant or to stir up trouble.

The problem we will have is if he isn't getting a game with Mcguane and Rance out of the side.
I still think he is a project player that was thrown to wolves too early. He has put on alot of weight in the last 12-18 months. I wouldn't be writing him off just yet.....

Sustained an injury during the preseason (from the crap state of the punt road oval) and is slowly making his way back to full fitness and form.

Some people on this forum want to torch anybody that they can get their hands on. Please learn the facts on why someone may not be playing that well before you pull the trigger.

YB&B.

Agree 100% If he hasnt come on in leaps and bounds by the years end i would offer him up.
Yesterday his first 3 qtrs were poor, and it was only a half reasonable last term that gave him a little cred.

Also looking at the game yesterday, i think the new sub rule will make it difficult for Browne to be a regular starter in the 22. Not bad in the ruck, but from then on he is a slow lumbering player.

Not sure when his contract is up for renewal but unless he starts to show something at the burgs then he will do himself no favours to stay on the list beyond next year.

In the dozen or so games he has played for us to date he appears to have no real position as his own ( fwd, back, ruck etc)and guys like Rance, Astbury, Grimes and Griff are only making it tougher for him to break in.

And that's the other problem, there are now other players developing ahead of him. The kid obviously has ability, but is Punt rd the right "fit" for him?

Still too early to tell, you could runt to the right spots all day at VFL level and still not get hit with a decent pass as most of the VFL listed players couldn't dispose of an apple core let alone a sherrin.

It's hard for the big guys in this league there are not many who can completely dominate and i think that's what people are expecting from Posty.

In reality if he can take a few marks and kick a few goals, plus some hit outs then i think he is on track

The Coburg game thread comments by people who were watching would seem to indicate that it's not a problem of being played out of position, or not that there are others keeping him out of the team, simply that he is not good enough. If a player continually drops marks, makes bad decisions, poor disposal and goes missing for chunks of games, (and Gourdis could be seen as fitting this description too unfortunately), then he won't be promoted. Cleve Hughes showed as much as Post IMO.

Due to suspensions to key backs though, one of them may get to 'show their skills' next week though regardless. Due to the above 'skills problems', their fist needs to glued tight and told to punch to the boundary this week and stand on the opponents toes for 120 mins.

See where you're coming from guys but just way to early. Talls take longer and he'll hit his straps towards the end of the year and definately next year and 2013.

Got be patient woth Posty and the coaching staff need to find his position before round 10 or he will be doomed

On a side note, we haven't got much now to come in and replace McGuane next weekend. It will have to be Will, but i can see Buddy and Rioli ripping us a new one.

ive seen a few coburg games and he lacks urgency,,, also he has poor awareness and he is always being told from the bench where to run to and where to position himself....I think it might be a classic case of great under 18s but just struggles to make it to the next level..

White on Rioli? He has already added Garlett and Montagnas scalp to his list so far. Playing career best footy and with his pace and stamina would be ideal for Cyril

Might have to look at White on Rioli. Can match him for pace, but Rioli is a freak, love watching him. And when Rioli goes on the ball, at least Matty can go in the middle as well.

settle him in one position. and i think that one position is forward. has til the end of the year to improve cant see him playing more than5-7 games htis year. if that. :thumbsu:

White is doing very well he has his place in the side atm and it's upto him to keep it. I hope he does bcoz I think he has alot to offer.

Post needs time although definitely need to develop him in one position.

Has the talent and is obviously the type who lifts a cog at afl level. A bit like Hughes who looked good at afl and we looked a better team with him, but he looked disinterested in the vfl after a while. Would be depressing playing vfl football. I can see why they have quiet games playing in the vfl with tiny crowds and lower quality footy

Perhaps when we get to near the end of the season and he is looking down the barrel (assuming his contract is up) of being out of a job (or playing for Southport at least), he will find the motivation you say he needs to play better in these games at Coburg then!

When it came to our pick I was spewing that we didn't call out Shaun Mckernon. Having said that I hope Jayden succeeds, he comes from a good family.

One thing I will say is that if we are to on-trade him in the near future look no further than the Bulldogs.

I watched the game and he clearly has plenty of ability but lacks intesity, I also watched the Crows game last week and Mckernan was taken a few after Post and he looks the goods for the 2nd ruck, good leap, takes a mark, can ruck.

I hope Post comes good.
