Im just wondering why young Jed Lamb has not had a go in the nab cup?

Can anyone clarify with me?

To think that we could have gotten a far supieror player in Darling, he could have also filled a massive need as a KPF

So much for us having a strong culture, thinking that an 18 yr old kid will come in and destroy it

Jed Lamb has potential in spades (Yes I know potential is a dirty word...),

Main issue is he has had a fair few injuries over the last few years... and cause of this he hasn't been able to get his body *AFL* ready...

I would much rather he build up his fitness and body and perhaps crack the side for a game or two late in the season... Than get rushed in now and injure himself in a pre-season match.

I'm pretty sure I said something similar on a thread last year. We should have taken Darling.

Not having paid too much attention to the draft I was also a fan of darling. Seemed like a bit of a stand out in terms of forward options. Are we taking speculative players with our first round picks or what? We can't seem to get it right

Our first round history since 2000:

2011 - Tom Mitchell
2010 - Jed Lamb
2009 - Gary Rohan, Lewis Jetta
2008 - Lewis Johnston
2007 - Patrick Veszpremi
2006 - Daniel O'Keefe
2005 -
2004 -
2003 - Josh Willoughby
2002 - Jarrad McVeigh
2001 -
2000 -

Talk about slim pickings.

inb4 Bedford "Worst of the lot". :D

Rohan and Jetta looking to steady the ship, with Lamb and Mitchell yet to play but both could be very good players.

But we didn't, get over it. We need this bloke to work ,as he can be anything.

I got over it, 2010 graft day when we selected J Lamb.

I don't really have a problem with lamb, only been on the list for 1 yr and that was ruined by a hamstring injury(s). hopefully he gets his body right plays a few games this year and becomes a gun player for us.

My problem is more with the swans, we always hear them, media and swans players harp on about out great culture etc. but come draft day pick 21 we passed over Darling even though at pick 21 he was

best player available and best player for our needs.

But due to the fact that he had a couple of indiscretions when he was 16/17 we didn't choose him. (i think those indiscretions happened while he was in school or camp WA posters??). Did we honestly think that an 18 yr old kid could come to this great club and destroy our culture

At least we got one genuinely elite player out of it.

Yes Mitchell and Rohan will be elite

I agree and add jetta aswell if/when he can become accustomed to afl standard he will be a brilliant player. Good kick/good speed.

inb4 bad kick.

The guy is one of the best kicks at the club read/watch interviews of players talking about it.

Obviously still hoping Lamb makes the grade ... and keeping faith in Jetta.

Looks like we should always trade our 1st round pick and then draft the eyes out later on. Sam Reid will be the equal to #1 priority pick by years end and we got got him 38? Goodes 43. ROK in the 30's. Parker et al. Hope Lamd can cut the gravy. Sorry:)

IMO, Jed should play maybe 2 or 3 senior games this year just to get a bit of taste. He will probably get lost and the pace of the game may be a little quick for him, but he should adjust to that next year.

Honestly I was a bit upset that we lost LJ because he could be an anything player and did not get much of a chance with us, so I am sweating on Lamb to make an impression and put some heat on the other boys from the ressies. He is a mystery we should make do with what we got.

The swans saw something in him to be our first pick, it better be the right one.

There are a lot of rumours that he purposely acted like a twat in the interview process with all the interstate clubs, in order to slide to WCE who said they'd take him in the 20s. Not much you can do about that.

Yeah i guess if thats true then there isnt much you can do, surprised that freo overlooked him considering they had no young KPF on thier list and plenty of flankers and mids

reality is if we had of picked Darling he would have wanted to be traded at the first opp back West..We would have had another Rocca if anyone remembers...
Personally i dont get why our supporters complain so much about our recruiting strategies, we get it right more often than not, your not going to get it 100% right, if you did you would win premierhsips every year...We tend to trade well and guys on a list with afl experience are easier to judge than yng kids..
But if lamb can get his body right he will be good for us
