One thing Jenkins has proved, is this theory to be total crap

" He may have not been in the top 15 in our B&F, might not be in anyone's AFL top 50 players, has never been close to All Australian and has never had an elite year, but Tippett is worth 900k a year because you can't find blokes that big that play like him". BULLSHIT....

Kurt can get stuffed. I would take Jenkins at around 200k any day of the week. And he wants to be here. Sydney have been smoked

In the era of FA efficient use of your cap space might become the single most important kpi for success.

Overpaying Tippett will be the thing that really bites sydney on the arse

No one has ever been able to explain to me yet how Kurt was hopeless in the finals against the team that wanted to recruit him and to which he wanted to go, namely Sydney, yet in another final could put in an almost match winning performance against the Hawks.

Yeah they did, you just didn't like the answer.

Tippett fired against a team that didn't have anyone to play on him. Schoenmakers? Pffft

It wasn't kurt rolling over for sydney it was him playing on a nothing opponent vs hawthorn

I don't care about contested marks. I care a lot more about marks inside 50. They give you a shot at goal, whether you take them by standing on someone's head, clunking them in a pack, standing by yourself, or on the lead. Doesn't matter, still a shot at goal.

Tippett last season (concussion games excluded): 43 in 18 games at 2.39pg
Jenkins this season: 27 in 9 games at 3.00pg

In the 4 games since Tex went down, Leeroy has taken 22 marks inside 50. That is outrageous going. Only 6 players in the league have more than that this whole season.

A good forward tries to avoid contested situations. Uncontested inside 50 marks are the sign of a player who knows how to get free, time his leads, find space

Contested marks are compensation for not knowing how to play as a forward

AFTER reviewing Adelaide's games and watching his shots on goal, Josh Jenkins says the reason he's struggled to convert his opportunities became obvious.
He told AFL.com.au it could be as simple as straightening his approach.
Jenkins has had more shots for goal this season (33) than North Melbourne's Drew Petrie (27), Geelong's Tom Hawkins (30) and cross-town rival Jay Schulz (29), but his conversion rate of just over 51 per cent has hurt.
Since Taylor Walker's season-ending injury promoted Jenkins to the club's main attacking target, he's returned 11.13.
"Last year I was pretty accurate at both SANFL and AFL level and this year, it's just a little bit of a technical thing that I've identified," Jenkins said.
"I'm just a bit off with my line, I've watched some footage from behind the goals and the way I'm running in's just not quite straight – I'm kicking it pretty much where I'm running.
"I think I've missed 13 set shots this year and 11 of them have been to the right, so that stands out a fair bit."
While frustrating to be leaving so many goals "on the table", Jenkins said he was pleased just to be getting the chances to kick them.
He insisted the technical concern with his goal kicking was easily fixed; the main issue was getting his hands on the ball.
"I've had two games of 2.4 and I've had a 2.3 and a 3.3, so if I can turn some of those into fours and fives then it'd be a whole different story," he said.
"If I was spraying them right, left and everywhere I'd be a bit more worried.
"The main thing for me is that I'm getting the opportunity and shots on goal."

Good to see he's identified what's causing his kicking to turn to shit. As he said, last year he was very accurate. Maybe he should take the #4 guernsey to a witch doctor and get rid of whatever curse is on it.

Big Jerka Jenkins really has something about him doesn't he....

The guy has confidence mixed with a healthy dose of arrogance without being a flog. Sure he's missed a few shots but at least he is getting them and thats the main thing. 100x Smarter 'footballer' than $kurt.

You can just see him and Tex working beautifully together.

The critical thing with Jenkins is his pace. Old footy wisdom says you don't play too many talls in the same forward line, but I think that you can get away with extra talls as long as they offer a small forward-like quality. Tippett worked well with Walker because he was useful when the ball hit the deck. Jenkins also works well because of his pace.

By the time you've finished finding a defender for Walker, and then trying to figure out another person tall enough to go with Jenkins, you've then got to think about how fast Jenkins is. Do you put a pacey player on him to prevent him from leading? Then he can use his height. Do you put a tall player on him to nullify his height advantage? Good luck keeping up with him.

Between Walker, Jenkins and Lynch we have three talls who all offer something extra besides simply being tall forwards. Walker can crumb with the best of them, Jenkins has exceptional pace, and Lynch has elite workrate and generally sticks the mark and kicks the goal if his opponent lets up on him. Used correctly, those three could become an absolute nightmare for sides to match up on.

I'm not sure there's many, if any, defenders in the league who could go with Leroy on the league. The guy is seriously quick for his size and not only that he can accelerate very quickly with those powerful legs. While Tex has been a massive loss it has been mitigated to an extent because of Leroy's development this year has been so impressive.

I'd say quite significant, yes.

Tippett's main benefit on the lead (and he was a decent leading mark without being great) was his ability to take the ball at the highest point. Difficult to stop even if the defender can keep up with you. Mind you Tippett also seemed to try for chest marks too often which would end up being spoiled.

Jenkins can burn his opponent on the lead. The real question will be, if opposition teams wise up to it and put a speedier but slightly shorter defender on him, will we take advantage of it by clearing out space and kicking it just over Jenkins' head to let him use his height?
