She had four chances to win the match, but nerves got to her, and that, cost her dearly. Well done on Jen though, she never gave up, and I respect that in a tennis player. Shame about Hingis though, I really wanted to see her win.

Great final. Three setter, tough conditions, a great comeback, and two spunks in the final as a bonus.

I agree with you DCFC. Jen has been my favourite since she burst onto the scene 11 years ago. The last 12 months has been a dream come true. I did feel sorry for Hingis though losing in that manner but since Capriati did it, all is well.Originally posted by Danny Chook Fan Club

Amazing game, Hingis jumped out early and Capriati looked too nervous and conservative. Hingis got to 5-1 with a double break and Capriati broke back twice to get to 4-5 but lost her serve again to lose the set. Hingis again got a double break for 4-0 in the second set though I always thought that Capriati could break back at any time and go on with it because she looked more dangerous if she played her natural game. Jen broke back twice again to be on serve at 3-4 but lost her serve as she did in the first set to be down 3-5. She broke back after Hingis had the first of her match points at 40-30 and Jen had forced it to deuce after a gutsy backhand close to the line. They both held serve until the tiebreak. Jen went out to 3-1 and then Hingis came back. Jen had a set point and Martina had 3 more match points but Capriati kept coming up with the goods on match point. Both players were exhausted and leaning on barricades and sitting down between points. Funnily enough, Hingis looked far weaker going in to the third set and it looked like Capriati would run away with it but Hingis got the first break of serve and Capriati peeled off 5 games in a row to win it. By the end, Hingis looked to have given up almost.Originally posted by blues^rock

And her fathers a pretty funky fellow. I loved his hat today.
(a la Days of Our Lives)A well worn cliche but it is true. The last few rounds of the women's draw were filled with fantastic games. Seles v Williams, Seles v Hingis, Capriati v Klijsters and then Capriati v Hingis. Each were filled with breathtaking rallies which is more than you can say for some of the wham bam thank you ma'am Men's matches. Though this year the men's matches have been equally absorbing. Certainly makes a mockery of Marcelo Rios' criticism of women's tennis.Originally posted by GoEagles
