I made a last minute decision to go to the game when I heard he was in, and specifically took my binoculars to have a good look at White's efforts and demeanor.

He is clearly on the edge and may be lost to us (seek other opportuntities) if things don't turn around. I reckon there will be a number of other clubs enquiring about him at year's end, including GC.

A few points I noticed.
  • Jesse is very supportive of other team mates and always makes an effort to get around them and congratulate them if they do something. He clearly gets on well with his blood brothers.
  • He crunched the packs 5-6 times today. That is a very taxing role (ala Brereton) and at times he felt the effects, but soldiered on well.
  • He won some good ruck contests, and followed up with 2nd and 3rd efforts and good tackles around the stoppages. He did a fair bit of ruck work and really takes the pressure off Mummy, who had a blinder.
  • Has a sound kicking style, so accuracy shouldn't normally be a big issue.
  • Troy Luff bags him constantly on MMM (what a tosser, especially for the king of clangers), but Brad Seymour was looking beyond the stats and constantly commented on White's contesting and creation of opportunities.
  • He is huge physically, with real speed to boot.
  • He doesn't seem to wear a mouthguard
Jesse's one weakness is his lack of belief in his leading, and sometimes just doesn't know where to lead to. He just needs to lead, and lead and lead - and DEMAND the ball. When he does, he is powerful and looks unstoppable... reminds me a bit of Plugger when he does that.

Could we get Plugger down for a couple of lessons?

In a relatively boring team, he has an x-factor that can bring people through the gates IMO. That is important in the Sydney entertainment market.

Reid was a bit down, but not through Jesse's presence. Reid just didn't hang on to the ball today. I hope Jesse gets the coaching and support he needs and they're our twin towers for a decade.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

I agree. Just needs more self-belief. Had a good game yesterday, relatively speaking. Worked hard, made the saints defence sore I'm sure. He has showed so much promise at times. I hope he stays with us and continues to get opportunities.

Drive me nuts listening to Luffy get stuck into White as well (He has a tendency to get stuck into the Swans period - doesnt often have much nice to say even when we win) We saw him the P1 car park after the game as we were driving out. I wanted to give him the old I told you so in regards to Jesse.

He played really well yesterday. He needs to play out the season. And dont mess with him too much. Maybe give him licence to thrill a bit like Jetta was given last year. Get the ball and go. Crash packs and get the ball.

Re: Troy Luff is a homo

Both he and Reid were great at crashing the packs yesterday.

There was a marking contest in the last quarter where Reid came charging through and the aftermath looked like a car accident.

How good was that? Imagine Reid with another 6-10Kg!

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

I've been a critic of late.
He worked harder yesterday than I've seen him work thus far. He needs to keep that effort up because he has presence. But when one is so big & fails to do his role without the ball, it can have a detrimental effect to those around him.

Jesse can one day tear a game apart. Question is, when?

I'd be happy to keep him for another year!

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

I thought for sure he was done before yesterday. There was a spark though. We'll see how he goes for the rest of the year.

That's sort of it, though. He's too old now to be allowed time to 'develop'. He has to start performing now.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

Yeah him and Reid were just crushing packs on the wing etc.

I love it, especially when the opposition are left down on the ground for a bit afterwards. As long as they get up and are ok (no one wants to see anyone seriously injured.) but they will think twice chopping out, filling the hole etc next time.

Pretty much what I have observed of him over the years, he always needed to spark, and be more consistent.

here's hoping.

Oh and there isn't anyone else in the team more happy for anyone else scoring or doing well.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

Intent, Commitment and Skill level, white is sub par and he did well against saints.

Some decisions are as a result of confidence and possibly what his been told on and on by the coaches. I think he done his role as given and as long as he does it, I'll turn around and focus on Longmire.

As long as he keeps his intent and body contact up and plays to hurt.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

He's been one of those players I've always wanted to do really well - I still do - but boy he does push the goodwill sometimes. Yesterday was a move in the right direction but I have this feeling that he'll start to come good and then the Swans will quickly put him up for a trade.

At the game yesterday I sat in front of two old women who were Swans supporters and, good grief, did one of them hate him with a passion. He could do nothing, and I mean nothing, right! Every time he was anywhere near the ball they screamed at him and constantly exclaimed that "Jessie, he's a waste of space". He could have crashed packs all day and it would have made absolutely no difference to the old bats.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

Whats with the goal celebration? Was he revving up his chopper or the crowd? :D

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

A much improved game. He needs to accept the role of forward/ruck and continue to develop as such. Shame he missed a couple but great to see him leading and presenting well and marking.

Damn him and his turning his abilities on and off like some neon sign. Sometimes it's like he's two different players. Must frustrate the coach.

Would like to think this game will give him a much needed confidence boost.

Are you questioning his skills? I think he is exceptional below his knee's, a great kick and hand pass. His marking would be the only skill that lets him down. But the biggest problem has been getting the right spot for marks in the first place amongst a few other intent and smarts issues.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

His best game of the season, and he showed some great signs. I was amazed reading the stats later that he got only seven possessions (I think that was it), but you've gotta be excited about any big man who can get down low moving forward to take a mark, then fire that handball for McVeigh's running goal. That was an enormous goal, and White persisted throughout the game. And looked more comfortable rucking than he has done.

Very encouraging.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

I did notice towards the end of the game that he was off the ground quite a bit. Dunno why that was really. I'd look for him fairly often and he wouldn't be up forward or in the ruck. Maybe it was to open the forward line up or something but he was off the ground a lot in the 2nd half.

Re: J WHITE through my binoculars

i've followed white's career a bit ever since i saw him play a really good game a couple of years ago, i am pretty sure it was against carlton at etihad stadium, he took a few good grabs and kicked i think 4 or 5 goals? i'm sure you blokes will recall it better. that day he appeared to have all the tools to become a genuine quality KPF. i have been somewhat mystified at his apparent lack of progress ever since that game but wathcing the game on sunday just gone i thought he really attacked the ball with some energy and had a real imapct on the contest even if he didn't get huge numbers. he is the sort of bloke that could make a quantum leap in 2012 and if i was syd there is way in the world i would be thinking of trading him. the talent is there, it is a matter of harnessing it

Peanut, ever since you broke the Jolly trade early I've shat myself every time I see you post regarding the Swans. No offence.

That reminds me of a massive shock I got the other day. The woman from next door confronted me in the driveway and accused me of nicking her underwear off her clothes line. I was horrified. I almost shat her pants.

Im not sure if you are serious about the old lady confrounting you but my grandmother who has dementia is in hospital at the moment and she blames the hospital/nurses for stealing her underwear as well as her nighties so you arn't on your own.
