The kid is seriously talented, and a decent size - I believe we have a superior medical team to North Melbourne and he would fit into our side quite well.

Would you offer Pick #27 for him?

I'm using the logic in that he's going to be more gifted and far superior to anyone we're going to select at #27.

The boy can seriously play (when he gets on the park). :thumbsu:

I agree on the latent talent C4, but do you think we might have run our race playing with fire by trading for players with injury histories the length of TG's arm??

I take your point.

But like all draft picks - and from all reports this is increased in this years draft, #27 is really hit or miss.

I'd take a good player with injury history - who we know is talented and can perform, over someone who may just be a list clogger type that we "were required" to select.

.. lets hope Big Ben Griffiths makes it to #27 :)

TBH I don't know much about Jesse Smith C4, but have to agree with Splendini on this one ...........

The issue is that we have to take 3 picks in the draft, have already traded away 11 and don't look like getting any picks for Fev.

If we trade away 27 then participation in this year's national draft will mount to little more than list clogging.

didn't the 'upgraded rookies counting towards the 3' rule get through?

Joseph draws one line through a pick

Why don't we just give money away we good on doing this. I don't want more injured players on the list if we going for someone else get Mitch Thorp at least you can work with him as a Full Forward if Hawks are prepare to let him go.

Just to let you know:

Cripple + Talent >> Cripple + Talent + w***er

Has a ton of class but unfortunately his ankle is stuffed.

Wouldn't give up any more than a third rounder for him in the very slim hope he'll get his body right and even then I'd be reluctant. Only 21 games in the last 3 seasons, 19 of them coming in 07.

Still, he got a rising star nomination in 07. His wiki has him looking at entering the ND and PSD.

Could get him on the cheap. Be good to have a another 6'2" defender who's got some talent.

Exactly "how stuffed" is his ankle though?

interesting quote:

"In a further blow, talent identification expert Neville Stibbard said Smith, 23, had the talent to become an AFL star.

"Jesse is a genuine A-grade player," Stibbard said. "He is as good as Brendon Goddard . . . he is an elite talent."

Heard it compared to something they would see in a serious car accident?
Agree he is very talented and had heard him compared to Goddard too, but can we afford to take the risk?

Bad enough that he's only played 27 games in 5 years. He's only had one injury free season thus far...and while it was a very solid year, I wouldn't be comparing him to an AA in Goddard just yet (I'm guessing never).

Damn. poor kid. hate hearing about injuries like that to kids just starting their career :(

If his agent was confident though, maybe its not so bleak? Fingers crossed for him even if he doesn't end up with us.

3rd rounder might be a goer then, doubtful he'd end up going before that. PSD would be the better option though.

Yeah, but I'd love to know a bit more about the Kanga's rehab facilities and how much they impeded his recovery (and how well our own facilities would compare), which is the main reason for his leaving.

Very good call. I'm sure he wouldn't be nominating for the draft if his ankle was completely shot. I haven't seen much of him play (no one has), but what I have seen is very impressive.

I don't think he's worth a second round pick but our recruiting dept know what they're doing and will make the right call when the time comes. I would be rapt if he was a blue next season.

i would take him without thinking twice however i dont think that we will get him, unless we go after him in the national draft. he is training with the hawks and his old man is the back line coach for the hawks too. its no secret that the hawks want some key defenders after last season and he is probably the pick of the bunch (potential wise, barring injury). they have a pick before us in the draft and will probably use it to rookie him. really do hope to snare him though!
