I am quite sure that is a huntsman. Cant hurt you. We have them everywhere up here. Always have 1 or 2 living somewhere in the house. They are good to kill insects. Good pets actually. If you are friendly to them they will sit on your shoulder.
 
I didn't even get past the 1st picture.. and I only looked at that for 2 seconds.

Yes, I'm a pathetic arachnephobe. To give you an example - I had a huntsman crawl across my face when I was asleep a few weeks ago. I woke up, nearly soiled myself and then slept on the couch for the following 3 nights.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to the corner to roll into the foetal position and suck my thumb for a few hours.... :(
 
Picture something about that size with a body the size of a mouse and that's what we had outside our window when we lived in the hills, only we had a pair of them, one bigger than the other. No doubt they were going to mate and bring us lots of 'little' bundles of joy til hubby killed them. :eek: Sometimes I wish he'd caught them or we'd taken pics of them so we could show people. I've never seen anything that big since.

I have a phobia about them but only the big hairy ones. The smaller type don't bother me. The biggest fear is having them crawl on me thanks to getting one caught up in my long curly hair when I was a kid. It felt like 5 minutes while my brother tried to get it out of my hair. It would have helped if I'd kept still I suppose. :rolleyes:
 
I suffer from severe arachnophobia also, the pic that P_D posted actually didn't scare me because it's bigger than life size, it's weird but I'm not scared of them like that! Put one in front of me in real time though and YES I am terrified! My boyfriend is worse than I am when it comes to spiders so I have no idea what we're going to do........anyone know of any spider-killing services? :p You know, call them up in the middle of the night and they come around and kill it for a small fee. Anyone looking for a small business idea should take note!
 
I don't think you should use the Lord's name like that. My mum and dad told me you should never use it in vain.

Yeah but there are exceptions.......such as when spiders are around! ;)

Same for me really...the smaller spiders in movies scare me because they are the ones i've encountered
 
I found one of those huge huntsman bastards in my kitchen last year. It was camped on the wall, right bloody beside my head. It scared the absolute crap out of me.
 
I really hate spiders. Just looking at a large huntsman crawling up a wall just gives me the shivers. They just look evil to me, and I had a few bad experiences of them when I was a little kid.

When I was 8, I was helping the folks to clean the garage for a garage sale. The problem was, that there were hundereds of spiders underneath all those old cardboard boxes, pieces of furniture, old junk, etc. and these spiders were big. Anyways, I had this large huntsman crawl up my arm, shook my arm in an attempt to get rid of it, and it sunk its fangs into me. That hurt alright... and I couldn't sleep that night, for fear that one may be in my bedroom.

I have had some experiences when I was younger, but those were cases where a spider either crawled up my arm, or fell from the ceiling and on to my head (during night time when you're asleep is even worse). I have dreaded spiders ever since. When I encounter a large spider, such as a huntsman, I keep my eyes on it, move very slowly to grab a heavy object, creep up to the spider and wham, no more spider. Arachnophobia is probably my worst fear... I really hate spiders...

However, daddy long legs don't concern me, as with other small spiders except the really dangerous ones like red backs and white tails.

For some reason daddy long legs have an almost worse effect on me than other spiders...but EASILY the worst are the small-medium sized black spiders
 
Ah, had a small problem with finding a white tail on my pillow a few times. And no, I don't pick them up and put them outside.

Aren't daddy long legs supposed to be one of the most poisonous spiders, or is that just an urban myth?

There is no scientific proof that daddy long legs have the most potent venom... so yeah, it is an urban myth. The brazillian wandering spider (a huntsman like spider in the jungles of South America) is the most poisonous spider.

In particular, the Brazilian Huntsman is widely believed to have the most active neurotoxic venom of any living spider. Its venom is so potent that only 0.006mg (0.00000021oz) is sufficient to kill a mouse.
 
i had a huntsman on my head in grade6 and i didnt even know. it was in my friends car n im like omg these people just leave a huge spider sitting in the car like 40cm away from my head. then 2min later it was on my head for a while :S


i thought daddy long legs spiders were the most posionous?
ah well
