just curious if last years dt winner`s starting squad has somehow become available to all us dt tragics out there? i noticed TAGers 2010,TEAM DIRECTOR 2009 and convicts 2008 starting squads are there for all to see but couldnt seem to find 2011 winner jetta vendetta`s starting team anywhere?

Maybe Shellers could give us something, cam 2nd ran 1st all the way. Maybe some of his trades he did that were winners/losers and what he thought worked so well and why he did so well.

Although shellers may still be sinking the drinks to try get over last year.

Think this was my starting team. To be honest it sucked to start off with. Was ranked 30,000 overall by round 2. Then started trading heavily and got off players before too late ie C.Garlett, Duffield, Richardson, Toy, Bewick early rounds.

Defenders-
Scotland, Gibbs, Laidler, D. Stanley, Duffield, Duigan, Grimes, Toy, Lower, Deledio

Mids-
Rockliff, Judd, Cruize Garlett, Rohan Bewick, Boyd, Curnow, T. Mckenzie, Heppel, Prestia

Rucks-
Sandilands, Cox, Zak Smith, Petrie

Fowards-
Fyfe, Goodes, Steve J, B. Harvey, Krakouer, Richardson, Darling, Tapscott, Knights, Franklin

Good luck everyone this year :)

cheers for posting that mate.makes for very interesting reading.good to see that an out of the box strategy took it out also.very different mid set up.congrats on your win!

wow - never would have picked that side to be the winner.

So mid-priced winners aren't the worst thing in the world, I never tent to pick them.

It seems the key to winning is all in the rookies. You pretty much got all the best rookies, maybe negative Libba.

Petrie in the Ruck with Sandi and Cox - did i miss something there? Who the fwd dpp link?

Yeah rookies are the key.

I got Libba round 2 after I gave up on Garlett.

I traded Krakouer to Rhys Stanley to get the fwd link. In hindsight I should have got a cheaper forward ruck rookie

Dont want to speak on behalf of Vendetta, but my guess was J.Tippett was brought in round 5-6. I also did the same thing on SuperCoach side.

EDIT - egg on my face....refer above...(my bad as I just assumed Vendetta would of picked tippett (instead of stanley), which is why my auto-pilot response about tippett)

Ah ok, so you did get all the good rookies then haha.

Don't want to pick your brain too much, but just wondering how you go about finding the best rookies? is it just on form through NAB, do you focus on JS and hope to get lucky with points, is it team/coach based??

Also, why don't you have any fancy badges awards in your profile like Impromptu :) ?

I think this is sort of what Dylan was talking about in regards to a midprcer being traded if they dont work benefiting your team greatly.

I actually had no one to downgrade to Curnow or Libba last year and my hand was forced as i knew they were so important in making coin. I ended up having to trade an important DPP link which would come back to hurt me in Krakouer IIRC i traded him atfer he had only made 30odd k.

The only other player i considered which i sort of wish i had of now was Bartel after 2 100's. Yes it sounds crazy to trade a player after 2 100's but from what i saw i didnt like his new role and didnt think he would get these scores continuously. He than went on to avg far less and get knocked out early. I just couldn't bring myself to trade a keeper after 2 100's, breaking to many important DT rules.

Think its a combination of all. I tend to read a few articles in the lead up to the draft and by the time NAB cup comes along, I have a general idea who I am keen on. If you watch a few preseason games, and read some articles its pretty clear who the coach likes, and who has a role to play in the team. (For instance last year, I remember reading about Guy Mckenna being asked who he thought would kick the first goal for the suns. He responded with Mckenzie which suggested to me a) he was a round 1 certainty and b) most likely a starting 18 player.

My one tip is the top picks aren't really worth it in the expansion teams. I picked Trent Mckenzie over David Swallow and saved around 50k that I used elsewhere in my team. Just like I will pick Shiel over Tyson etc etc.

Haha I don't know who or where to ask for the badge, but it doesn't really bother me!

hi mbosca,
do you remember what your team looked like mid-season..say rd12-13? Just curious as to who you downgraded-upgraded etc as some of your rookie priced selections turned out to be keepers...Stanley, Lower, Heppell, Zac Smith, Petrie and possibly McKenzie. Or did you wind up trading most of them out to guns or fallen premos for the run home/finals to get you over the line?

Reason I ask, is I'm never quite sure when to trade out a cash cow or whether to hold them as keeper. I wound up "upgrading" D Stanley to Gilbert when Gilbert bottomed out mid-season as it was a straight swap at the time and Stanley wound up averaging 80 and Gilbert 66 :o

Round 4-

Out Boyd $467,400 ---> In Thompson $398,300

Round 5-
Out Krakouer $171,000 ---> In Stanley $165,500

Round 9-

Out Sandilands $379,500 ---> In Leuenberger $335,800

Round 22-
Out Hibberd $237,500 ---> In Guerra $279,100

So as you can see I nailed some trades and really screwed some others up. I was overly aggressive during bye rounds. I traded heavily during the year and could afford to have little trades towards the back end of my year because most of my team was dual position.

Just to compare, my starting team consisted of:

Goddard, Delidio, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Duigan, Lower (Heppell/Coad/Stanley)

Swan, Boyd, Bartel, Savage, Bewick, Atley (Harris, Prestia, Swallow)

Cox, Sandilands (Zac Smith, J. Tippett)

Franklin, Goodes, SJ, NRoo, Sylvia, Krak, Richo (Tapscott, Petrie, Matera)

Was pretty happy with the starting squad and potentially thought I had 16 keepers. As it happens 16 of my original squad stayed with a few injury trades. Funny how I could keep Coad all season.

Trades as follows

Round 3
Out Bewick (97,600) ---> In Curnow (96,400)
Out Atley (96,500) ---> In Libba (92,500)

Round 6
Out Richo (136,700) ---> In ROK (349,900)
Out Broughton (310,800) ---> In Hibbered (92,500)

Round 7
Out Duigan (217,500) ---> In Puopolo (92,500)
Out Libba (228,200) ---> In Illes (110,400)

Round 8
Out Curnow (279,800) ---> In Pendles (466,000)
Out Grimes ( 306,500) ---> In Shaw (358,700)

Round 9
Out Harris (234,200) ---> In Marc Murphy (411,100)
Out Swallow (283,000) ---> In Mzungu (97,600)

Round 10
Out Stanley (233,600) ---> In Scotland (385,500)
Out Krak (246,800) ---> In Jacobs (97,600)

Round 11
Out Savage (271,100) ---> In Mitchell (369,600)
Out Sandi (410,900) ---> In Bailey (97,600)

Round 12
Out Lower (271,100) ---> In Enright (313,200)
Out Matera (199,400) ---> In Chapman (392,000)

Round 14
Out Puopolo (233,600) ---> In Suckling (346,600)
Out Tpascott (196,500) ---> In Callinan (80,400)

Round 16
Out Bartel (304,700) ---> In Ablett (487,700)
Out Smith (296,400) ---> In Keefe (92,500)

Round 17
Out Illes (275,300) ---> In Fyfe (366,100)

Interesting to look back on the difference in trading strategy.....

Interesting trades and sort of go against the DT golden rules if there is still such a thing.

Duffield premium traded out after just 2 games?

Not starting Stanley, starting Cruize Garlett

Trading Richardson out after he had made you no coin and trading in Harper who had concerns whether he would be able to a) score enough b) play enough games

I guess the thing we need to remember is the game is strange and you can win in so many different ways

Interesting that the winner of both SC & DT didnt have Goddard in their initial teams...........

That was actually one of the keys to jumping away last year as for what he put out he was way overpriced early. I wonder who will fit that mould this year and how we will identify them as a few did with Goddard last year?
