Does anybody know who this bloke is? I know he is the manager of Alan Toovey, but has anybody heard of him before the last couple of days? It seems to me that he is trying to get his name out there by making headlines all day about Toovey willing to leave if he doesn't get the right price. When I typed his name into google I couldn't find anything on this bloke other than the articles in the papers today. Could someone please enlighten me? Cheers.

Manager of Alan Toovey...Thats about it. What more do you need to know about him?

Toovey recently moved to him, and is his only AFL client. His recent expertise has mainly been in Soccer player management.

Previously some time ago he was in some sort of operations manager role at South Melbourne Hellas soccer club (which sees to have included player contract responsibilities). He left for a rival club (Knghts) and allegedly was involved in the poaching of Hellas players by Knights using his knowledge.

He is not fondly remembered by Hellas.

Why do you need to know anything about him? He is the middle man in between Toovey and a spot in the 2012 Collingwood Premiership team.

I don't have his favourite colour or bra size...

You need to google harder then. Plenty of stuff out there on Marinis. Seems to work mainly as a consultant (whatever that means) across several industries, but principally mining and sport. Most of his sports background is in soccer, but he has also dabbled in baseball and aussie rules.

Thanks mate.

I probably should have said I'm only interested in his background in sport.

Oh well then I guess his soccer background is irrelevant then :D

In answer to your originl question, I dont think this is a case of a newbie trying to make a splash and a name for themselves using Tooves as a burnt offering. More like it is someone who is by nature a devious cnut and whose experience is in soccer player management (where absent formal proceses such as drafts etc and where moving multiple times in your career for more money is the norm makes this kind of play second nature) reverting to type without checking the lay of the land in an unfamiliar setting.

Um isnt Jess Kraks manager?
Yep, it says so once again, amazingly in the Toovey article;

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/124928/default.aspx

As for Krakouer, his manager Peter Jess insists his client won't be leaving the Magpies, but says he does want to negotiate new terms.

Jess said Tom Scully's hefty deal with Greater Western Sydney has forced him to seek an improved deal for Krakouer.

"The whole situation started more about the general values in footy just at the moment and the impact the new expansion clubs have had on that market," Jess said on Tuesday morning.

"As part of the at discussion, I had mentioned I find it extremely difficult to justify where say Tom Scully is in the press getting a figure of two million dollars and that makes him a 20-times better player than Andrew Krakouer.

"To me, that doesn't make any sense."

Oh, and, SAY WHAT NOW.:eek::confused:

Just because Scully gets a ridiculous amount, all of a sudden everyone is worth more, hmm, ok Pete.:eek:

Yeah I read that comment too and thought wtf, so now Scully is the benchmark for all AFL players.

My view is this bloke is trying to make a name for himself, that's exactly what he's trying to do, and our possum has toasted himself.

I just hope the poss isn't out of footy one day soon and suddenly thinks, 'what have I done'!!

Why he would choose someone with zero other clients, and no cred, simply defeats me.

Toovey is worth nowhere near 350K ffs.
Nor is Krak 500K nowhere near it.
Ambit claims, but at least Jess is saying Krak won't leave, whereas Tooves has landed himself in an awfully messy spot.

If Toovey is his only AFL client now I suspect he will be his only AFL client ever. I can't see enyone else think his tactics are a good idea and I can;t see clubs that keen on opening the door to him. Frankly I think we should put an offer to Toovey that is only valid if he gets a new manager. Maybe deal via Craig Kelley and have him approach Toovey. Not the done thing but wouldn;t be dealing with someone that operates like this bloke.

We've had our issues with managers before. Ron Joseph for one is on the outer. Peter Jess was behind some of the Carlton deals that lead to their cap bust.

We need to be strong about the type of people we deal with and be straight up about it with our players. Happy for them to be very strongly represented and they shuold ask for as much money as possible but there are ways to deal and ways not to.

The onus is on Toovey. If he does not like what his manager did he will get back to negotiating on his contract and will sign if we want him (in which case he'd get a reasonable offer). In reality he isn' worth much off the 350k. Maybe 300k if he plays 22 games. He is an experianced player now and a premiership player who is selected in the 22 every week.

Krak signed a two year deal. He got $100,000 for the first year. I think he might be getting that for the second year.

His manager is hoping that the Pies will give him a pay rise to keep him happy....not because the Pies have to....but just to keep Krak happy....

Sav Rocca signed on to North for $100,000 a year for two years ....but renegotiated at the end of the first year because his manager said that Sav "wasn't going to be happy" playing on low wages in second year.

In other words, what Krak is doing is not unusual...

If he isnt an accreditted Player Agent, does that mean Toovey cant go anywhere?.
Im sure EVERY player in the AFL is required by the law of the AFLPA to have an accreditted player manager.

Makes you wonder then, WHO AT THE AFL does the accreditation checking?? WHO?

Not sure everyone must have an accredited player manager - I think its more like if they have a manager, that manager must be accredited. Different Onus.

As to the checking, I doubt the AFL would crosscheck until a contract was submitted that the person nominated on the contract as agent was accredited - before then the onus is likley to be on the clubs and players themselves. The AFL gets involved at the end of the process not the beginning. Given his last contract was with his prvious manager the AFL probably hadnt had cause to check yet.

No, every player must have an accredited manager, no ifs, no buts.

He could hook himself up within the hour though so it will have no bearing on whether he stays or goes.

That would be a fairly thankless job.

"SO Mr Toovey, let me get this straight. Your previous management , who negotiated on your behalf for several weeks, managed to piss everyone off, embarass you, and then were excluded anyway due to being unaccredited. This same "management" has, on your behalf, and presumably with your consent, shopped you around like a '74 Datsun 180B but with less class, dissed your club, suggested some of your collegaues should be delisted, and all when according to him the offer from your club is not far from an amount you will close on. You would now like me to pick up from scratch in the midle of this, with 3 days to go according to your self-imposed timeline, in circumstances where any credibility or goodwill you have had has been pissed up against a wall like a 6 pack of Corona. So, one question..........are you high?"

Really don't like the way ths has played out. Tooves, you're either in or your out. And from the sh!t you have pulled this week, i'd say you're out. NEXT!!!

.

Not for contract negotiations anyway

26.4 In the negotiation of any new contracts to be entered into between Players and AFL Clubs, AFL Clubs shall only negotiate with the Player, an Accredited Agent or a parent or legal guardian of the Player.
