I just finished watching, heckin'g awful. Seniors players were so bad it wasn't funny. I would've had Redden n Shuey in bottom 3, Gaff and Hurn would help round out bottom 5. Felt sorry for young guys!
I'm now very concerned we will finish very low, swans at home, dogs away and cats at home we're looking at 0-3. That can destroy your confidence!!! Suns are playing freo in perth week before they play us, obviously stay the week and the travel factor is gone. If confidence drops and Suns is increasing under a new coach could be 0-4.

Yeah, but super draft coming up. So ya tank, offload gaff for a category A pick, and suddenly you’ve got pick 3 and 4 in a midfield heavy draft

Seems clever to me. I’m on board

Where you getting two picks for gaff? Don't forget that suns have our first rounder next year.

Was at the game and Darling was bloody horrible the Freo supporters were loving every time he went near it would honestly have Misty Waterman way in font of him atm, thought Ainsworth looked good was surprised at his stats after the game he looked more involved was prob his attack on the ball and his pressure he doesn't take a backwards step.
Cole was lively. Was impressed with Ryans work rate and intent prob couldnt see it on the telly but he was working hard both ways especially in the 1st half.
We have an obsession with big bodied mids with pace but Neale the slow midget absolutely destroyed us today, he is a very good player and made us look really bad in the clearances.
Gee Venables you know the rest just play him all season will get more comfortable need to fast track his development pump the games into him.

Left at 3 quarter time. Even in shit performances you can say at least "someone" played ok. I think one water boy could say they did a good job. Besides that... lets just hope our plan was to lure the opposition into a false sense of security. 100% gameplan achieved if that was the case.

So I take it that everyone is concluding that we are really missing priddis

I know possessions are overrated, but apparently it's not easy getting them.

Priddis and Mitchell were limited in different ways, but they knew how to get the ball. Who's getting 40 touches for us? High 30s even.... It's not Gaff without someone standing up in the middle. Redden used to hit those numbers, with Rockliff and Hanley happy to handball.

Too much is resting on Shuey and I don't see any cavalry.

Ah Chee might help, and Sheed is in that mould but doesn't seem to get all that high figures. Maybe if Yeo doesn't work out in the middle, they'll swap him and Duggan to and from the backline. Otherwise, for those who have seen Watson, could he run through the middle and pick up touches?

We seem to fumble a lot and often kick to the opposition if this is our game plan I hope we review this .
It's been good enough for the Washington Generals for 50 odd years and by crikey its been a sound fiscal model.

You can understand the attraction.

Gaff aside, we have no natural accumulators in the squad.

Duggan, Redden, Jetta, Yeo and Cripps each have the aerobic capacity but are currently either lacking in positional awareness (to run into space at the right time) or defensive awareness (to not let the opposition out the back when they are trying to find offensive space) that prevents them from shifting from a 15-20 possession player into a consistent 25-30 possession player.

Why do you think the coaching panel persisted with Marsden for so long?

Unfortunately it would appear that none of the younger crop has a natural ball-magnet among them either, so this will be a problem that will seemingly only magnify in future.

The only positives from that game are no real injuries and that they were very competitive against Port last match when the mid held their ground. A lot of youth today, it looked more like trying to give everyone a run before round 1...but the seniors went missing big time. Neither Simmo or The Gov were too impressed post-game.
Listening to Gov, he's future captain material.

Reckon this was just an off game, chemistry/dynamics/muffin magic was off? They can play much better than this! The midfield showed hope last game, showed nope this game. Ahchee is still an unknown quantity at this time.
But reckon they'll tune it all up plus roll out NN..
If all the critics and media are right; that we still have no midfield grunt and we're doomed to slide, it will be a long season watching for signs of improvement.

Too early to buy into the missing priddis lament for me..glad to have moved on, will take the pain.
Round 1 will be like counting down to the ticking time bomb of truth...
I could be wrong (often am) but does Gaff have any aerial ability? I cant recall seeing him take overhead grabs, contested marks etc -can the running white man jump?

It's not surprising that none of these guys are really ball-magnets now, none of them were really accumulators in juniors either. We seem to have an aversion to drafting pure midfielders who can find the ball.
