Last year was a bit mystifying really. He did have some injuries, but just seemed underwhelming, overall, which was strange after what he'd achieved in the O & M.
This year is what I expected last year.
I would like to believe the call from Ben Reid to Derek Hine went like this:
“Derek! Derek, it's Ben Reid. The premiership player you drafted. You know that new gun goal kicking forward you're looking for? Well, have a look at this!”

He is looking very comfortable in the 1st half of this Eagles game. Could well have had 2 goals, been sharp with tackles and disposals.

Total Opposite what I saw last year in the VFL
That's some first half. 1.2 and 14 touches for a small forward on debut is incredible. Has the pace, smarts and composure to be a player.
We've recruited well for small forward, following that Richmond model, prioritising footy smarts and pace.

The magnets around him the VFL would have limited development. It was also a transition from country.
I think if, with a new set of eyes, we went back and watched those games, we could see things differently.

Incredible composure and his touches have shown legitimate skills. Kicks to our forwards advantage is not something I’m used to seeing. Great start to AFL, shooter will be shitting himself.
