Has stepped away from the club due to the poor handling of his ankle injury by Freo medical staff. Has approached Dogs surgeon David Young for an opinion on what to do from here (given their previous relationship while at the club).

In the hypothetical situation he does decide to depart Fremantle, what's his trade worth? Last time was valued around Pick 40 coming off a good second half of 2016, ending with a huge Grand Final performance, but otherwise poor to average career beforehand. Has been very good for Fremantle

He’s worth a new medical team for Freo. Good trade.

A new medical team for Freo would probably win you a flag given the list you have. Hamling leaving may finally trigger a review and overhaul of your medical team, which would be a blessing in disguise

Pretty sure I read that he’s stepped away cause he’s in Quarantine from going to Melb to see the surgeon. Don’t think it’s an actual step away? I could be wrong.

been very good for Freo, I actually find it hard to place value. Maybe an early 2nd? Obviously I Hope Freo keep him.

If he doesn’t want to be at Fremantle anymore I hope we take him back

It is going to be a really difficult year for Victorian clubs to entice players back from interstate i would have thought, especially from Perth.

I would anticipate trade period happens in November-ish which given the current state of play there is still going to be fair bit of uncertainty around the immediate future there. I can't see players wanting to leave WA for Victoria and live with limitations when they basically have full freedom in WA.

He's worth a 2nd rounder easily. Late first is probably market value. Would love him back.
That's what I was thinking - somewhere around 20-25. The injury could throw a curveball, depending on severity. If there's uncertainty over it ever getting better, it tanks his value tremendously

God damn you let the man dream but you are right I can’t see him leaving his home state and come back to Victoria

Yeah we can take your pick 36 after you guys with the flag this year. LoL.

But seriously, I would take a 2nd rounder. Freos medical staff deserves to be fired. Morabito was unlucky with those knee injuries, so was apeness.

The Harley Bennell situation was the final straw for me. Bennell played 80 odd games in 5 years at the suns. At Freo from 2016-19 he only played 2 dockers games in 2017 and 20-25 Peel games in the WAFL in that 4 year period.

He already had played 3-4 games this year for the demons.

Your medical staff have legitimately cost you a good chance at a flag by now I reckon. The list you have is deceptively strong, we just never get to see it in action thanks to injury after injury. It's ridiculous the medical staff have been a problem this long because it lets the rest of the staff down

So Hamling & our 2nd for Naughton? Sweet.. haha jks.
with your NGA kid coming really early, can’t see you having the picks to get him anyways. Unless was a future 1st and pick swaps to even it out. I dunno.

his contract makes it difficult, but I don’t see him asking out. Freo will do they can to keep him

Would love him back, but we don't have the currency.

I'd be willing to bet we have a few guys traded out this year so if we wanted to, we could find the right currency. Pretty unlikely Hamling goes anywhere tbh, more wishful thinking

Melbourne have sunk three first round picks into May and Lever. I think Hamling would be a perfect budget-friendly upgrade on Oscar McDonald to complete a trio of tall defenders.

He’s definitely better than he was in 2016 but he’s also 4 years older. 27 years old with a really dodgy injury... a first round pick is fanciful. I reckon a pick around 30, similar to Alex Keath last year would be his trade value. Obviously if the Dockers can get him
to stay, that’s the best case scenario for them.

So 6 for May, but Hamling who's been an A-grade for Freo with 3 years left on his deal isn't fetching a first rounder? I think that's what's fanciful.

Not this year though. There's the elephant in the room about the dogs wanting a certain teenager in the draft
Yeah spot on.

There's a few rumours circling around about Toby McLeans future. I don't personally think McLean is worth is equal to a healthy Hamlings, but I wonder if we can turn a future second + McLean into something nearing the worth of Hamling, assuming our medicos are confident they can get him right.

I dunno, just thinking out loud!

Steven May is/was a much, MUCH better footballer than Hamling.
I disagree on this. What has may done?

Looking at hamlings career. 3 years at the cats in 2012-4, played no games.

Revived his career at the dogs. 23 games in 2 years. 9 in 2015 and 14 in 2016 including the 4 finals in 2016.

He then plays 60 odd games in 3 years at Freo from 2017-19.

I will be gutted if he is traded out as Alex Pearce and Griffin Logue will be our only decent key defenders left with Cox and Duman as depth.

I half agree but can he return to his best after current injuries . Also his player manager Colin young already put pressure on him and Fremantle by going public with his injuries
