Noticed ''THE" Mike Sheahan's Top50 article in Herald -Sun yesterday which I always use for wrapping up scraps or cleaning the BBQ. I have never read such a self-indulgent load of %^* from a journo who is his greatest self promoter. Thankfully he can rest on the laurels of playing 50 games with Werribee.

Anyhow just to show that he has no grasp of the game, he included a list of up and comers that started with Ball and DalSanto both from StKilda. He then had Joel Reynolds at 7 and Jared Brenan (Brisbane) at 8.

Whilst being a passionate Bomber supporter, if I was given the choice of Reynolds or Brenan I would take the Wizz from Briz anytime - Brenan is going to be an absolute champion of the game.

Can anyone convince me that Joel Reynolds will be this good?

Reynolds will be better than Brennan

Reynolds may lack the impact and flair that Brennan has but is quicker, smarter and disposes of the ball better. He passes better than anyone exxcept Misiti at Essendon . He is also better overhead than Brennan and had it not been for OP last season, he would have continued to emerge as a real match winner.

Brennan looks like a real player but he is very one sided, has poor balance and doesnt like the hard ball too much.

Reynolds will be the next Brownlow medalist from the Bombers - this boy is a dead set gun.

I'd tend to agree with that Bozza.

For starters I'd say Brennan is a similar player to Reynolds in some respects.

Both are left footed, both are tallish flankers (Brennan though is key-position height but perhaps not a KP player) known for their pace and exceptional leap.

Except that where Joel is 186 or so, Brennan is 193 (and yet can play small or tall). Where Joel's leap is big, Brennans is the highest recorded at the draft camp since it's inception. Where Joel is quick, Brennan would be quicker (given his camp times again). And if Brennan is one sided so is Reynolds. Better overhead than Brennan is a big call given that's one of Brennan's staples going by junior football. Reynolds flies for a few but doesn't quite hold on to them, hopefully that will change with time.

Having said all that the hype over Brennan is pretty excessive to this point as he hasn't shown that much at all really. He'll end up a decent player though imo

Joel hasn't shown that much yet either, he has got quite a few senior games though. He's shown that he's prepared to work hard, and has a bit of potential. I like him and hope he could make a good player eventually

Haven't seen enough of either at this stage to make a proper comparison. Brennan's made Gerard Whately cream his pants a few times, Reynolds has shown us sparks of promise, but I'll say give them another year each.

and FWIW, Andrew Welsh will be our next Brownlow Medallist

Brennan is mental. Reynolds is a plodder.

Yes and No.

Brenan is somewhat mental, and that may be the thing that eventually lets him down.
He come across as one of many footballers who think they have made it just because some commentator or journo gets a fun sized Mars bar over them.
Des Headland is a similarly good player who comes across as his own personal hero.
We'll also have to see how his wiry body stands up to the pressures of AFL footy.
Having said all that, if he gets his head right, Brenan could be anything.

Reynolds isn't a plodder however. He's a racehorse.
He was probably drafted a year too soon, and that's meant he's been a boy playing against men.
This year should be the first signs that he will be quite a handy player.
Again though, he too has shown signs of breaking down under the rigors of AFL footy.
I guess we all hope his body can stand up.

Geez, it seems if you can run while holding the pill in one hand you are a super hero!!! And thats about all that Brennan has shown.

As for Reynolds only playing for three or four more years (cant remember which goose said that) - I am here and happy to put some folding on that one!!! The guy has class written all over him.

I am sure Brennan is good - but dont be fooled by the one handed trick

Brennans problem is he was picked up by Brisbane and lauded by Leigh & the club. The media have grabbed hold of this and now expect him to be the greatest ever player.

Successful sides bread this sort of thing. Remember 2000? ALL of our players of this year were the best thing since sliced bread. How quickly that has changed!

The only player that has done anything (from the ones who have left the club and now play elsewhere) is Blake IMHO. Even then he probably looks even better because he is playing for Brisbane along side Voss, Black, Lappin, Lepitsch, Ackermouth etc. Beautifully spoon fed and can kick to Lynch or Brown and be made to look good on disposal. I want him back but still think he was overated.
