hahahaha lol jesus ****ing christ

You want to post the smart ass shit in every week (that lines not meant to be so hostile)

Well face facts, he left the club in a shambles

Wasted the talent he had, and an average coach, didn’t develop talent and he took over a good list and left a mentally worn out one

Well they still went alright over the journey, so did they do that
  • off the back of a strong list that Longmire built but couldn’t coach
  • a shit list that Longmire built but coached well
  • a mysterious third thing?
Did they go alright? The game plan didn't fire in the last two grand finals, probably because the game plan was never built on:

  • Hard work
  • Pressure
  • Handballing chains
  • Contested strength

Those things win grand finals more than the flashy stuff Horse was enamoured with.

Did they go alright?

Yes. Absurd to pretend they didn’t.

Longmire was obsessed with these things. It’s all he would talk about when we lost, and everyone on here would whinge that he wasn’t addressing the gameplan.

As far as handballs, Lions thumped us by kicking it.

Agree re: contested footbal

Horse talked about it, did he address it? No. We were never improved in those areas and fell away badly in those areas as the years passed. So here we are. You're being snarky about Cox for not being able to fix in 7 games what Horse couldn't in four or five seasons.

I’m not being snarky about Cox not being able to fix it in 7 games. I suspect, on balance, he’s not actually coaching that badly and we’ll improve if/when players come back (Although tofay was awful.)

I’m being snarky about people that would come on here after every loss and demand that Longmire be sacked.

I want to say fair enough, but I don't know that it is fair enough. Because I don't think the situations are comparable. Coming on here after a loss to say that Horse should be sacked because of losses a decade into his coaching tenure is somewhat different to if someone did it to Cox after his sixth or seventh game. It shouldn't irk you that people aren't losing their minds over Cox yet like they were with Horse.

Edit: It seems like maybe people actually are, anyway.

I Agree with you

our last 10 finals we have won 4, 3 at home, 1 away, we have a 1/5 winning away in finals and 1 loss in neutral territory where we lost during COVID

So too me we have a team that can make finals clearly but getting it done on the big day has left us well short, these historical facts tell you that we had areas that we needed to address to make that next big step, which again results tell you we didn’t

I had concerns after 2022 we didn’t go to the trade table, had the same concerns after last year, finals always give you the clearest indication of where you are at…. Did we address, I don’t think we did,

For the record last 19 games we are

W x 8

L x 11

But that’s just my opinion

Yep agree with this.
Coxy on a hiding to nothing. Probably would have been better off starting from scratch at the Eagles.
Horse isn't stupid and got out when he saw the writing on the wall. If he believed we could still contend he would have stayed.
This has been brewing since the Dylan Stephens draft.
Exacerbated by the Konstanty draft.

its funny. I wasnt on the get rid of horse until the port adelaide game last season. To me watching us get to 80-0 was no longer aberrant. that was how we played against the bulldogs at the scg. we were 40-0 against geelong and something similar against Carlton. I had concluded that he just was unable to coach the team to deal with tems getting a large number of goals - and this was because we just had no one who can turn the tide of a game.

i had reached the point that this team just couldnt maintain a 4 quarter effort and i put that down to the coach and concluded we needed a whole new game plan. in particular i was pretty frustrated with his strategy of playing tall lumbering players (or even short lumbering players in the name of parker) in the forward line.

In retrospect, I actually think the rot happened with the combination of losing sam reid and paddy mccartin within about ten games. sam reid's injury in the prelim in 2022 was particularly problematic. He had covered so many gaps for us - and was so maligned on these pages but he was rarely outmarked down the line, he was playing as a mobiel ruck and a mobile tall in the forward line. losing paddy shortly thereafter meant that we never really regained a marking defender that could protect our outsized defenders.

I think the absence of quality talls has been massive for us and has meant that both offensively and defensively we concede so much possession through contested marks. Grundy adds to this. Hickey was a much much much better mark than grundy (however much grundy might assist around the ground) and we are just struggling if the ball goes into the air.

Most of this isnt horse's fault - but id had enough by the end of last year.

it was time

Yeah Horse definitely thought it was a sinking ship at 10-1 last year, the writing was on the wall
