Re: John Meeson???

You're right on all points. Yes, he was flying in pre-season, apparently regularly keeping up with the fittest midfielders in the endurance runs.

He has been injured at some stage this season (can't remember exactly what) but has played a few games at Sandi without starring. I think Crows' fans were right when they said he was a supreme athlete that has been trying to turn into a footy player, but it seems it hasn't worked (....yet) .

Re: John Meeson???

Have read Andy Lovell's reports on the reserves and he thinks he's coming along pretty well. Getting possies and marks around the ground, just needs to improve his centre bounce work.

I'm predicting he'll be in the team within 5 weeks.

Where can you view Andy Lovell's reports?

John Meesen
John continues to develop. He played his best game for the footy club, but still has lots of room for improvement. He picked up 13 possessions and the big ground at Aurora Stadium suited his running ability. His ruckwork was better, and he jumped into his opponent at centre bounces and took six marks around the grounds, kicking a goal. John is starting to find his feet, and his work ethic continues to improve.

Troy Simmonds was 22 before he played his first game for the dees in '99 and is now considered one of the 3 best victorian grown ruckman next to josh fraiser & jeff white (based on HOF selection). After a couple of games in '99, Troy played almost every game in 2000 including grand final.

They say Meesan is like a tall wingman, but its not like he's a shorter ruckman ala white or simmonds, he's 200cms. If he's that mobile and that tall he could be almost unmatched around the ground. If his ruck work keeps improving he should earn a few games before the year is out, but i don't expect him to be a regular this year.

People are already saying it was a waste of a trade, but that's stupid. Ruckman & KP players take more time to develop, so if he plays a couple of games by the end of this year i think that's a par round. If he's not at least a semi regular player by mid next season, feel free to sharpen your axes

yes, I must say I agree. Also KPP stocks are very important. You need insurance with that sort of thing if another ruckman goes down. Idealy Meesen will improve throughout this year as you have said but even if he doesn't reach elite status he will still be handy for us as a backup. All clubs should have at least 3 competent ruckmen.

Re: John Meeson???

It's funny when it comes to preseason he is one of the fittest around, but the coach questions his work ethic. To put it simply he needs a bit of c*nt put into him I reckon!

Re: John Meeson???

Last friday he was feeling a bit sick. I know this because his Facebook profile is open for everyone to see.

So are Brent Moloney, Ricky Petterd (May 22, Ricky has good groins! 8:30pm) (Ricky is pissed off at chip for losing his 4-1 lead against juice and mees. 5:09pm), James Frawley and Cameron Hunter. Something for all the stalkers out there to get into.

Re: John Meeson???

Meesen is a strange one.

In his draft class with Cam Wood, both men were considered to not only be the best natural ruckmen in their year, but for many a draft.

Wood was considered to be the longer term project, while Meesen was considered to be plug'n'play. The latter couldn't be further from the truth unfortunately, for whatever reason.

Hopefully he can come good sooner rather than later. The potential is obviously there.

I watched him running around for Norwood in the SANFL for 3 seasons. You could see he had a big of ability but his form was patchy. My greatest criticism of him was he has to be the friendliest big man I've ever seen. I just don't think he has the physical presence to match it in the AFL. I would like to see him do well, but I'm not sure he will.
