Is there any reason he plays so poorly in showdowns?

He is a class footballer. In good form. Plays well in other big games. Not a lack of effort, if anything he tries " too hard" and gets too fired up

Ebert gives him far too much trouble given he's kicked about 20 goals this year and really is a B grader anyway

Any explanation?

As I mentioned in another thread, it's the Port crowd that get to him IMO. They really got stuck into him after he made a couple of blunders in the second quarter and he seemed to lose the plot after that, preferring to run past the ball and try and take out the Port player.

But then he wasn't alone; some of our guys (young and old) are far too easily intimidated.

Johncock's strength has never been in the aerial duels. Ebert is a small player but plays as a marking forward. Doesn't really suit Stiffy at all. We actually match up pretty poorly on their forward line.

Westhoff doesn't engage on the body-on-body stuff that is Bock's strength, Schultz roams too far and wide for Rutten and we saw in the first Showdown this year that Gray is simply in a different class to Doughty.

No other teams seem to have a problem with them though :o

all true although dont think Schulz's "roaming" had much impact. He did crunch in on the Members wing much harder than Porps to win a one on one ball in the third quarter though. Porps had an injury interrupted pre season and may still be a bit injured but he needs to lift his intensity, that was a really poor effort
