Just heard an interview on SEN confirmed by John Reid, Johncock has spent the night in a melbourne hospital, broken leg looking at 6-8 week on the side lines. An injury given his great form we will find so hard to cover.

  :(

Shocking news. Stiffy would probably be winning our B&F this year.

Let's just hope he makes a good recovery and gets back to playing for the AFC as soon as possible.

Couldn't agree with you more, just now wondering who will replace him for the next 2 months and give us the leg speed and creativness he has this season. Definatly 1 injury we will struggle to cover, and our lack of depth will now show i think.

That's a terrible blow to our lineup. We will miss his run badly. Time for one of the fringies to stand up in his absence. :(

Here's the AFL.com.au report...

Johncock breaks leg
7:40:30 AM Sat 7 May, 2005
Alan Shiell
Sportal for afl.com.au
Adelaide defender/midfielder Graham Johncock has a fractured left fibula and will be out of football for six to eight weeks.

He was injured late in Friday night's match against Melbourne at the MCG when his leg collided with an opponent's shin.

X-rays late on Friday night confirmed the fracture.

Johncock, 22, is returning to Adelaide with the Crows late Saturday morning and will have his leg put in plaster when the swelling subsides.

He has played 77 of a possible 78 AFL matches with Adelaide since his debut in the opening round of the 2002 season.

A hamstring injury kept him out of the 2003 second elimination final against West Coast at AAMI Stadium.

The Crows reported no other injuries, apart from Johncock's fractured leg, when they did their recovery session at Melbourne Grammar School early on Saturday morning.

Centre half-back Ken McGregor did not have a broken nose, as suspected.

Van Berlo Step on down :)

Really sorry about Stiffy, whats more because its a leg he will lose ALL his Aerobic capacity (which isn't great anyway) - sadly we won't see the best of Stiffy again this year :(

Bad luck for Stiffy and last night wasnt his best game due to being crook during the week. You could see he was struggling but trying his heart out as he always does.
Always gives 100% - can't ask for any more - great example to his team mates

******** news. :(

But it gives somebody else the opportunity to step up.

Maybe this means McLeod permanently steps into Johncock's role down back as he did well last night and we bring in say a Jericho for pace in the forward line or a Ladhams for a crumber.

They'll certainly need to replace Stffy's pace as we are very short in that dept - yep either Jericho or Van Berlo (although not as pacy)

Don't expect Ladhams to be seen in the short term ;)

Or the long term either. ;)

Have to say that Van Berlo would be a chance to come back into the side, especially if he plays well for the Panthers today. Nathan plays a rebounding HBF role not unlike Stiffy, although The Count isn't as pacy.

However, with Doughty coming back into the side the injury isn't as damaging as it could me.

It's still a huge blow however. :(

Agreed, particularly as we're short on pace as it is - and really we have no pace on our list ATM in the wings :(

Definitely. Pacy midfielders are going to be high on our list come draft/trade time at the end of the year.

If we have some way of getting Travis Varcoe, then I say full steam ahead. :)

Pity is I don't get to see any SANFL games (used to be on Foxtel)

Who would you compare him with

It sounds like the usual forte' but IMO he plays like McLeod/Wells. Has that extra pace and class that comes with being an Indigenous Australian.

We looked slow at times last night IMO and seeing guys like Davey just stream across the ground made me realise we need a guy like Varcoe. Genuine leg speed and evasiveness is more important now-days then ever.

It's a pity other clubs' have already taken notice and rate him very highly. If we continue our win-loss-win-loss form then I doubt we will get a good enough pick to draft him. :(

Shocking news but if there is to be a positive come out of it someone will get a chance to prove himself over a long period.Bad news for graham but good news for someones long term playing future.Lets hope we can use this bad luck to our advantage.

OMG shocking news, feel so sorry for the lad.

How come he was carried off in a stretcher or anything?

We're gonna miss his run off the backline badly. :(

Yes that's the positive that comes from this - the chance hopefully for a young player to get some sustained game time

We get a replay of the previous Saturday ABC match on Friday nights at 8.30.

This is not the news I wanted to hear as I was driving to the mother-in-laws place - hard enough to enjoy the visit at the best of times. I hope Van Berlo gets a call up.
