Wouldn't believe it yet, 2 Port fans hardly a reliable source.

Former Adelaide match committee member Peter Jonas will return to the club after being named as the replacement for departing assistant coach Don Pyke on Monday.

An important part of Malcolm Blight's successful regime in the late nineties, Jonas returns after a four-year stint as an assistant coach with Sydney where he was involved in the club's drought-breaking premiership victory in 2005.

"After four great years in Sydney I thought that, at the age of 47, the timing was right to head home," Jonas said.

"I was offered the opportunity to join the Adelaide footy club on the coaching panel and that, combined with the fact the family were keen to head home made the decision much easier.

"I would sincerely like to thank Paul Roos and the Sydney Swans for giving me the opportunity to be a part of what is a tremendous football club, the memories I leave with will stay with me for the rest of my life."

For his part, Adelaide senior coach Neil Craig was delighted with the appointment.

"Peter is an experienced coach and will blend in with our current group," Craig said.

"I have not decided at this stage the portfolio for the group, (that) will happen in the next few weeks."

The former Crows' runner has been signed to a three-year contract.

Great stuff.

As far as preperation, organisation and man management I think the Crows coaching staff have been outstanding. However I think match day coaching has lacked some imagination so hopefully Jonas can be of value in that area.
