IIRC, I think the man is out of contarct at the end of the year. Do we go for him seeing McIntosh is in his last year, or do we bypass him and step up another player who has been at the club a lot longer?

I believe he may be worth going for. I know he has not had the best of seasons (or two) since a couple of years back, but I think under the Coasters he may become more consistent under Worsfold, plus being back home again may suit him better.

He was AA in 2001, played in a pre-season premiership, and a rising star nominee back in 1998.

Then again, we have Carroll, Glass and a couple of others who may fit into the slot, but if Hay is not happy at Hawthorn (and I am only hypothectically(sp?) speaking) and wondering if his career is at the crossroads with the Hawks, maybe a nudge from WC could give him a chance to redeem his AFL playing career.

IF he is out of contract, should we make a move or not?

I think we should only go after him if:

a) He wants to come back &
b) We have someone who wants to go back

Having said that, I don't think we should give up too much for him... which will be tricky because Hawthorn will ask alot.

I think we should grab him (providing the deal is fair). We need to replace mcIntosh sooner rather than later. A flag is within reach, we should grab the opportunity now.

Only go after him once we've re-signed Judd. If we still have room in the cap, by all means go all out to sign him. But not if he asks for a $400,000 contract, we have a young list and their salary demands will only go up.

Not only Judd, but Cousins, Wirrpunda and Matera

To get Hay we'd have to fork out I feel, and I'd say the hawks would be desparate to keep him.

What makes you think he wants to come home anyways? ;)

Well he hasnt in the past, not even considered it, but I get the feeling it's not all a happy team at Hawthorn this season.

But back to the reality of it all, the money factor would come into play if he did want to return, and I doubt we could afford him

No way.

He would cost us too much, and we don't need him.

I know most everyone on here is pretty hard on Glass and Carol, but I think they will be the CHB and FB of the future for us.

Glass looked a lot like a McIntosh in training Saturday. He especially is developing that little grubber towards the boundary that looks like it might not be deliberate. ANother year or two, maybe with Milli as a defensive coach, and these guys will be right.

Plus who knows what kind of FB Lynch will be?

Given he has done nothing in at least a season and a half and is injury prone, he shouldn't cost too much in trade terms - I'd be inclined to make some moves for him - if only to make sure that if Freo want him, they pay through the nose. He's worth a punt if he falls in our lap, but I'd only trade a 2nd round pick for him.
He'd probably be a good Croad trade for Freo.

I dont think he'd be asking as much as people think. His last two seasons have hammered his asking price

I think he's worth a shot, he could slot right into FB with maybe Glass becoming the CHB.... its all speculation tho, Hawthorn will probably ask for Judd in return

depends on what he and hawthorn are asking.

but as someone said, I dont think it will be as much as we would think because his last season was pretty ordinary and although improving a bit this year, not like he was in 2001.

If he is out of contract, he may nominate for the PS draft, but I'd say we'd struggle to get him there.

That's true but Im not sure Hawthorn will see it that way. IMO they will still ask for way too much, for what seriously is a one season wonder.

I dont think he's a one year wonder, all he needs is a bit of confidence and barring injuries, could be back to his AA form.

Hard to see the Hawks letting him go though
