Think that's a bit harsh mate.
Obviously has some flaws in his game but has alot of upside and was worth taking a risk at Pick 77, a pick we were planning on passing on anyway, so no loss if he doesn't cut it. I have a feeling he will surprise a few.

It's funny how Freo passed on Marsh who has elite speed and very athletic for Alex Pearce who is also very althletic. They both don't have the best foot skills. Marsh being home talent would pose no go back east factor.

Pearce is quite a bit taller than Marsh so I am guessing that's why we went with him.

Yeah he is 2 and a half inches taller. That alone won't make him a better player. I think he may be groomed into a half back and they may have seen Marsh as a HF/mid.

You don't need to worry about that but Melb and Adelaide is a stone throw from Tassie.
We've got a pretty good record on player retention as of late, has anyone who was best 22 besides that wanchor Tarrant wanted to go home in the last few years?
We haven't lost a best 22 player for a while to the go home factor.

I was more or less refering to both Marsh and Pearce as both being tall, athletic players with limited kicking skills. Freo passed on Marsh and chose Pearce who isn't home grown talent.
I wonder who will be the better player as at the moment I can't split them and it will be interesting to see.

I think the club are looking at Pearce as a tall,quick defender as insurance if Smith doesnt make it
Marsh as a tall mid, third tall type is a position we seem to have covered,maybe came down to a needs basis

Realistically, we're going to have to wait 4+ years to really be able to answer that question.
On draft day, I didn't think much of Pearce (based on that ordinary highlights package on the AwFL website), however, I'm now coming around to the idea that the recruiters got it right. Particularly if the rumors about him being used in defence are true. As for homesickness, it's a non issue. How many players have West Coast and Freo genuinely lost to homesickness? Judd wanted out because of the drug culture, and the only other player citing that he wanted back to Melbourne from Freo (that I can remember) is Warnock. We got Suban out of that deal and were the winners and Warnock has only made sporadic appearances since. Go for who you think is the best player in a draft, regardless of where they come from. For mine, way too much is made of this 'homesickness' malarkey.
