Aussie Jopes has shown his true colours. I have said for a long time the bloke is soft and has never gone near a pack. Last night he had 3 goals kicked on him in the first quarter, and got every one of his possessions standing 15m behind the packs. Unaccountable, front running football is shown up in finals, and Jones is one of the worst offenders. Every team has receivers, but a good receiver will still fight for a ball in a pack. Again Aussie packed the brown shorts.

After his spray at Akermanis after the Saints won at Telstra Dome last year I hope the Lions players laughed at his embarrassing display.

You are a deadset moron mate. I am in no way implying that Aussie or any Saints player had a good game last night - we were demolished in every respect by a fantastic team - but your critique of Jones as a player is so far off the mark it is nothing short of pathetic. There is no need for me to reel off Jone's achievements or stature at our club - anybody with even a basic knowledge of our game will be aware of it. He showed in the late 90s that he can perform in the heat of finals, last night was an abberation - even the best players have shockers every now and then. You're a deadset keyboard cowboy - saying that he's scared but even though he's a little guy there is no way in the world that a **************** like you would ever have the balls to say anything to the guy's face. I feel like a total idiot even justifying your drivel with a response you are so stupid......

I agree with the original post.

Jones is a terrific footballer in so many ways but, without question, he's always had an issue in the courage stakes. He is probably the softest footballer at St.Kilda & in finals football that gets exposed ten fold- as it did last night.

In terms of skills on either side of the body, running ability, even aerial skills- he's good, excellent in fact. He reads the play & runs into position with the best of them, if only he could win a hard ball.

Just on that, why does he always seem to use his left foot even when he's in a heap of space?

Quite often he'll spray the kick and a turnover will result.

He's equally dominant on either side, it's just about what's easier. He'll ******** the odd kick up, "quite often" is a bit of a stretch for mine.

Yes A. Jones was very soft on friday night and that is why Melb N.Brown should be in the back pockett in the AA side. He has heart and has a fair dinkum go.

He isn't equally dominant on either side, he's clearly much more effective on his right side. That's why I think he should straighten up more often, rather than taking a risk on his left foot.

That's pretty much spot on.

There were a couple of efforts last night that made me cringe but he wasn't alone on that front.

Although we were horribly exposed yesterday, we are playing a far more physical brand of football than we have in the past. However there will always be a spot for the likes of Aussie who has been pivotal in our rise up the ladder with the way he sets up play out of the backline. It's a matter of having a balanced team.

It's a shame that some people watch 1 or 2 games of his and base their judgements on that but everyone at St Kilda knows how good a season he has had.

Wrong. He's very good on the left side of his body.

i cant recall too many players who run so wide as aussie. players are told to hold possession til an option comes up, but he will continually just run towards the boundary and bounce the ball until he's almost out of play. dead set next week watch the match and count how many disposals jones gets where u can see the boudary line in the screen also. wouldve thought with a forward line like that long and direct might be a quite viable option...

Yeah, I wouldn't put the captain and Jones in the same box. Hayes has tailed off a bit (with injury apprently) but you couldn't question his courage or application.

But blaming Jones' play on his size doesn't really wash. Matty Lappin is taller but lighter than Aussie, but never side-steps when it's his turn to take the hit. Baker isn't much bigger. Montagna takes more hits and gives away 10 kilos to Aussie.

It's not a body issue.

Aussie has had another great year, apart from the usual morons like Catman and Skywalk(not worth responding to) you blokes are being a bit harsh.
PS and have also noticed a bit of the old "sink the slipper" from Lions fans.

you would have to be the most consistently incorrect poster on BF - how do you do it?

I dont know why people would question his ability in Finals he was far and away our best player in the 1997 finals series (actualy named best player in finals) and by far our best in the GF.

He is competing with players such as Chris Johnson, Matthew Lappin, Adam McPhee, Leo Barry, Nigel Lappin and Darren Milburn for that position

Yet Nathan D Brown deserves it more.

If Jones is held in such high regard at St Kilda it probably explains a lot about why success has rarely visited Moorabbin. The reason for my shot at Jones was his 'bravado' at mouthing off big time after the siren at Telstra Dome last year. The bloke is a deadset cream puff, but acts like he is a he man. Fair dinkum night lights were invented because of Aussie Jones.
