Great debut by Jordan... 16 possessions, 8 tackles (most of any Geelong player). Fast, long accurate kick and already has the confidence to take the opposition on.

I expect him to keep his spot next week and maybe even beyond.

Kudos also to the coaching staff for not making him the sub; hate first gamers being sub and not getting enough time to show their skills.

I remember standing up and cheering in my loungeroom during the draft when we picked him, as he was was one bloke I really wanted above the others. Glad he wasn't started as a sub, good to see he loves a tackle as much a run. :thumbsu:

He was very impressive. Sort of played like a Hawthorn player, with that overlapping run and long kicking. We need one of those. Would love to see more of him please!

He a bit spindlehsanks like in that he is very tall and lean.... see Mitch Brown or any tall 1st year player... but as much as you can pluck from one game, he certainly seemed at pace with the game. Has a great burst, decent by hand and foot. Ive seen a lot worse on debut. Welcome to the big time Mad Dog.... ( I do like News limited... kudos to that one...)

Go Catters

I was very impressed with this kid and I expect him to be a long goal scoring jet in a year or two, but what was most impressive of all was his attack on the ball and pressure on the bal carrier. He's not affaid to do the hard stuff and get his hands dirty.

given time and development he could become a Peter Riccardi type.

one piece of Murdoch play impressed me in the third quarter, lead for Scarlett and took a relieving mark in defense - bereft of short/medium options he pumped it loooong, at least 60 meters and found a target.
his willingness to tackle will hold him in good stead with the selection panel.

i reckon he has all the tools to be a long-term AFL player, hopefully with just the one club !

I never had an opinion on this guy but was very surprised by him.
I knew he had pace but didnt expect him to show it on debut let alone in the wet!
Most tackles by a Cat aswell show his willingness to do the hard stuff and not just be that running type that some can stick themselves in.
Really impressive!

Just great to have some more pace in the side. As somebody has said, if we can squeeze Murdoch, Wojcinski, Varcoe and Motlop into the one side then what a difference that will make.

I said the exact same thing to my mate at the game this afternoon.

I think this may be the close to the end for wojo. Its his pace that is his value , if he is not in the side now then this newcomer should not be dropped to bring him back while he has form.

But I do agree. It doesn't take to much to change the way we are thought of Murdock and Motlop this year , Varcoe returns , add another 1 or two and the rest of the side doesn't look that slow.
And once we have some greentop pace again , maybe then we will start to have confidence to play our game again.

Was just thinking the same thing after I posted it mate. Wojo's body is starting to let him down consistently and he is one who I probably expect I retire at the end of the year. What an exciting player he has been though. How blessed have we been to have such an exciting generation. Might go and watch the 07 season highlights DVD now. :D

good comparison there, Riccardi was awfully quick wasn't he but this boy also has him covered for size at 190cm and already 80kg's.
That's going to be so crucial in tight contests like we are currently seeing from blokes like Watson, Dangerfield, Pendlebury and even Judd.

Can't forget he played against a relatively weak team as well but very promising.

If Smedts and Murdoch are able to hold their own from here on in, imagine when we get back Varcoe and have Wojak at the other back flank.
Throw in Motlop and we all of a sudden look so much quicker than we ever have.

From the opening bounce he just looked like he wanted to get involved. You find with a lot players on debut is that they want to gradually get into it.

He's 1 of 3 new players who have really surprised me.
Motlop, Murdoch and Stringer (provided he comes back) have really showed alot and its no surprise to me all 3 are quick players who like to take the game on and seem to have VERY good skills....

Really interesting comment. Sort of sums him up really. :thumbsu:

I agree, liked the fact he had the confidence/belief to call for the ball in that situation. Might seem pretty straight forward but not so easy to do in your first game.

Yep, reminded me of Isaac Smith a bit - fairly tall and lanky, quick and confident with a booming kick.

Signing up to the fan club as well. Looks a beauty. Fast, hard and damaging.

Looked very impressive and defenitely physically ready - similar in stature but looks a better mover than Isaac Smith ( said with a lot of hope). Great debut , must have skill to play so well in the wet , can't wait to see him on a dry track.
