Yeah, but Chron and GBS, if Josh doesn't nominate them, what does it matter? GC won't force Josh to go to a club he doesn't want to go to.

And, on the money offered to Josh, I doubt it's about cap space, but more a case of how much we're prepared to pay a second year player vis-a-vis others on our list.

They have a first round pick, and a late first round compo pick.

They're at the front, because it's about what the Gold Coast want.

As I said, Caddy will get $ wherever he goes.

GC will just send him to whoever gives them the best deal.

saints will not give up their first round pick and compo pick. It will be one or the other. At the moment they wont know the compo pick till October 16th? Caddy will choose more than 1 club and i doubt it will be the saints. They will get stevens in a straight swap with WC.

No its not...what is your issue?
Now Chron, I'm trying to turn over a new testicle and be a touch more respectful to my fellow NMFC poster but it has to be said that you are going off on a bit of a tangent.

The fact remains if Caddy decides he wants to play for North he will in all likelihood end up at North. Forget about StKilda, Forget about Carlton or Geelong, Forget about Ken Patera. Forget about what other side may have to offer. See Gunston trade of last year. See Judd trade. See most trades done. It's just the way it usually works.

I hope I haven't offended you in any way. :stern look

And your correct, all I'm trying to say is that we only have word he may come to north, nothing set in stone. Gold Coast will deal with us, but if josh is still unsure about where he wants to play, the saints may make an offer to both josh which he may prefer now they have the capacity to, which they did not have a week ago.

St. Kilda will now be able to find an adequate trade to satisfy the suns if that is the case. Sorry if I confused anyone

If he didn't nominate us I really wouldn't be fussed if we landed him or not TBH. As long as we're in the ballpark contract wise, with our state of the art facilities and very promising list, and the fact we're the team his entire family supports, if he STILL chooses elsewhere then he's not a true hot blooded Shinboner anyway. If we're way off on the contract front then fair enough.

I haven't given up hope that he will nominate us but I'm far from biting my nails and throwing a noose over the nearest tree branch in the event he doesn't.

Let's put it simply,

After today's events the only chance we have of securing Caddy is if he 100% wants to come to us, if not we are next to no chance, simple as that.

This is what we need to change and i hope Josh is our first step. We NEED to land a big fish, Josh may not be as bigger name as we would like but to be chosen over other clubs would increase our standing as a serious player and assist us in future trades.

When our stance is clearly we want him, unless of course someone wants to walk over us, it makes us a weak club. Brad has asked the players to stand up for themselves on field and not be bullied, its time the CLUB took the same approach.

We are in this trade up to our necks and if it doesnt fall our way no doubt we remain a small fish in the big pond. 14 + Knives if a decent offer, but it may not be the best offer GC get. That leaves us 1 option and thats to make the offer so attractive to Josh he makes us the premier choice.

Does this mean Caddy may be on more than our VC, possibly. Thats just life not everything is equal, we pay $$ to win in a race where we dont have the best deal. Im quite sure players understand this.

Time to balls up and become a real club. No more of this "oh if hes not 100% we dont want him"
FFS make him 100% by being proactive and anti up the $$. While we play humble underdog we will always end up with a victim complex.

To land Caddy over Geelong and Carlton will open the eyes of other players that North are serious about making a premiership run.

I'm sure most of us want Caddy, but he ain't a "big fish". He's a promising kid, who hopefullly wants to play at North. If he wants to follow the $$$ let him.

I agree, any reason we are not the $$$$, 700K 2 year deal is a sweet offer to a kid and much better used than paying supergav to play VFL.

I'm sorry but if Caddy is even considering going to Seaford, I don't want him at north. St Kilda should be a flat out no. Old list, finals unlikely, dodgy culrure, and they're out in seaford for godsakes.

Surely if the boy has sense he would be looking at Geelong and North, with more consideration of North due to inner city location, family ties and likelihood of playing finals. That said, who knows what he is thinking.

"Landing a big fish" is just macho crap. Essendon just landed one - paid a lot, tied up a long contract. Colby was the biggest fish of his day, Thommo was - different kind of cost, but we paid it to get them in the boat. I don't want my club to be the one that sacrifices too much for that temporary rush of adrenaline any more. Leave it to Carlton and Essendon.

The fact Caddy is still a minnow makes him a better target. If we can get him for a reasonable price, that's good. If we push the market so someone else blinks and pays too much, that's ok too.

So we continue to play poor us we have no money, push us around and we will fold every time we want someone?

If we were to offer 700K for 2 or 1.1 Mil for 3, would it ruin the clubs culture, or enforce a culture of pushing for success?

No, we play the "let's spend money wisely on players that can contribute to our financial success" game. At the end of the day, investing a large portion of our salary cap on a guy that would just fill a position in which we have plenty of young players to fill is not wise.
I'm sure if a free agent became available that the club really desired, we would chuck a lot of money at them. Our chase of Boak and Caddy shows that the club is pushing for success. Bon has said we want to grow organically, so we invested in that.

Not if we cant close a deal and get bullied away by other clubs ...................

When did the reigning premiers snag a "big fish"?

Our problems lie deeper than signing a 20 year old mid from GC. Sure I want him, looks a quality player, but I don't want to overpay for him when we've got some contract extensions coming up soon.

I'd be stoked if the club landed Caddy, but if it doesn't happen pick 14 is a very, very good kid from a supposed super draft. This is a win/win. With that in mind I hope the club does not consider paying overs. Also when you over pay, the rest of the boys have this in mind when they come out of contract.

Side note, is Stkildas compo pick for this year or next? Because they may be looking to make a play in the mini draft rather then use it on Caddy

They have a first round pick, and a late first round compo pick.

They're at the front, because it's about what the Gold Coast want.

Unless they are giving both first round picks up for Caddy, they're in the same boat as us waiting for Caddy to choose a team.

Or the entire "Master Plan" you obviously made up could fall to shit when they get a second round pick in return for Goddard.

Given where we are in our development, we need to inject 3 or 4 new players into our 22 next year who will improve our side. That's the only way, if we are serious about intrenching ourselves in the finals and pushing for top 4. That's players who are ready to go. Some could be on our list already, but it's unusual to see more than a couple to emerge from VFL and play 20 games.

For that reason we need to be active in the trade week, and if we do use pick 14 in the draft, it would be nice if the player was accomplished enough to be ready to go.

pick 14 is a very, very good kid from a supposed super draft.

Pick 14 is entering speculation territory.

I would be expecting the better KPP's & flanker types to start surfacing in this area in the upcoming draft.

We don't need KPP's or flankers. We need midfielders.

We would probably have to go with one of the more speculative midfielders.

Pick 14

2011 - Devon Smith (traded from Richmond for Stephen Morris)
2010 - Brodie Smith
2009 - Lewis Jetta (traded by Collingwood for Jolly)
2008 - Ayce Cordy (F/S)
2007 - Jack Grimes (traded by Collingwood for Wood, traded by Brisbane for Trav Johnstone)
2006 - James Sellar
2005 - Grant Birchall (traded by Port for Nathan Lonie LOL)
2004 - Angus Monfries
2003 - Fergus Watts
2002 - Daniel Bell (traded by Collingwood for Woewodin)
2001 - Ash Watson (traded by Carlton for 14, 30 & McKernan)
2000 - Daniel Harris

I would back Caddy to be a better player than most of these players.

Side note, is Stkildas compo pick for this year or next? Because they may be looking to make a play in the mini draft rather then use it on Caddy

This upcoming draft.

The only way I can see StKilda trumping us is if they offer him ridiculous money.

Looking at the shape of their list, they may just do that.

If what they're saying is true and they could only afford to offer Goddard 450-550 per year, I don't think they will offer Caddy more than half of that.

They were seriously struggling to meet the cap last year iirc. Goddard will give them relief though but it really comes down to Caddy and his expectations of the club to which he wants to go to most. Does he want to be part of a contending team for the better part of a decade or does he want to perhaps sneak a flag early (highly unlikely) and spend the rest of his career enjoying holidays in September?

Take it for what its worth (SEN is hardly reliable), but apparently SEN reported that Caddy's manager has denied any St Kilda trade. Its Geelong or North as far as he is concerned.
