This bloke promises to be collingwoods best "recruit" for 2006. He is a supremely talented tall, finally if he gets his playing weight up to the 100kg mark he will be equipped to play against men.......hopefully this will enable him to dominate as a follower as he did when he was a kid playing against kids!

key positions always take much longer to develop and apart from the fact that josh had the biggest wraps on him of any #1 pick made his task nigh on impossible from the start, he simply couldn't live up to expectations that were placed on him

this year will hopefully re-ignite rogans career and he will blossom

take nothing away from blokes like trav cloke, ruzza, C2, didz, stretch who should all help us improve, but a fit & firing josh fraser is something to get excited about!!
 
Expect a big year from him and you won't be disappointed, I cannot wait to see the Fras of old jumping above packs and sending them straight through the middle from 40 out. Just picture it in your head and you'll smile LOL

Josh Fraser still hasn't proven himself fully. We all know that he is capable of becoming a very good player for us, but he hasn't took a game apart on a consistent basis. Hopefully next year Josh can really step up and become a very good player/leader, because we would need him at his best if we want to win the premiership.
 
I'll wait until he starts delivering good footy every week before saying anything positive. He's now a senior player and just coming into the right age for a big player. I'm more excited about Richards. If Richards can hold down first ruck, Josh will be free to play around the ground.

Agree about Richards. If he can stay healthy and play most games (spending most of the time in the ruck), then Josh should have the best year of his career.

Both really need to take the next step.

Collingwood have to be kidding themselves if they are trying to talk up an injury riddled ruckman.

Sorry to offend anyone here but is it just me or can any of you detect some cocky behaviour coming from Collingwood?
 
hopefully a huge year coming up for Josh....would expect with an injury free run, that he will become a big force in the comp, he has been promising to deliver since '99 and now its time he does

he definitele has promise....but you summed it up with the injury riddled bit.....i would just like to see Josh get out there with some weight on his frame, for 22 + games in 2006 and see what he can produce

Talking somebody up who peaked when he was 17 years of age and who now has had some serious injuries isn't the right thing to do.

Collingwood really need to get somebody else who is at the same age as Fraser and who is able to play in the ruck.

Josh has played over 100 games including two Grand Finals up to the age of 22. Has had no serious injuries until this year, and even then it wasnt a serious enough injury to need an operation. He just needed rest and strengthening rehabilitation.

You're talking out of your arse. Nobody's talking him up any more than talking him up to the form he is capable of and has proven to date.

And yes, he does need a bit of help in the ruck. Thats obvious.

I saw on the channel ten news just last week that Collingwood and Mick Malthouse were talking him up.......

It is up to you to beg to differ but if you did your research properly you would understand what went on and what was said. To me it sounded cocky and stupid what they were doing.

Collingwood ruckman Josh Fraser is jumping out of his skin in anticipation for 2006, after his 2005 season was ruined by persistent knee injuries, while forward Chris Tarrant is set to play at a heavier weight in 2006.

Fraser, 23, played just five of his 113 AFL matches this year, but having returned from Arizona - where the club undertook a high altitude training camp - the ruckman/forward said he couldn't wait for 2006.

"I'm excited and I'm looking forward to it and this camp for me personally, was terrific," Fraser said at Lexus Centre on Friday.

"It gave me the opportunity to test it (the knee) - really test it."

"It continued to respond, which I was really happy with and I was happy to get through all of the sessions and probably going into the camp, I didn't think I'd do everything, but it just responded to the workload, so we just kept throwing things at it."

Fraser said he had already noticed the benefits of the altitude camp, since recommencing training back at the club.

"Having trained the other day, I certainly felt fresher," Fraser said.

"I know 'Butters' (David Buttifant) our fitness coach said that there could be some guys that are a little bit lethargic the first couple of days (back from the camp), but I've probably gone the other way and I felt really good."

"Whether that's a mental aspect or whether the altitude has had an impact that way, it's hard to say.

Meanwhile, coach Michael Malthouse said Tarrant had already added muscle to his frame and was one player that had benefited greatly from the recent high altitude training camp.

"He's another one who looks so much better for his trip away. The weight he's put on…we've just re-jigged his program a bit," Malthouse said of Tarrant, who battled a knee injury in 2005.

"I don't want to make many rash predictions, but I would say he is going to go into games, two or three kilos heavier and I don't think one ounce of it will be above his navel.

"You look at Chris Tarrant today compared to what he was even a month ago and it's substantial, because he does put muscle on straight away and he looks different and he feels different and he is stronger, because he's been able to load up his legs, because his knee is OK."

Malthouse said Tarrant 'is comfortable' with the fact that he will be playing with a bigger body in 2006.

"How he plays with that is another thing, but we feel very confident that having players around Chris, such as Anthony, Josh and Travis Cloke...and Cameron (Cloke) at centre half-forward…you've got to take the pressure off one player," Malthouse said.

"At the end of the season, Chris Tarrant was absorbing most of the pressure as the only practical tall we had there, because Cameron was out with shoulder, Josh with his knee and Anthony with his achilles and Travis was tired as, because he was trying to do too many things at once."

"Our forward line structure will change considerably and I think by doing that means you're going to distribute the workload and the pressure on the opposition more so than just being able to centralise it, so they're the things we look forward to…really look forward to."

Like to point out the bit where he's talking up Fraser?

I can read. All it says is that Tarrant will play a little heavier next year and Josh is fresh and full of beans after having a virtual year off. And he completed the Grand Canyon walk. And Rocca Fraser and Tarrant are important to us, along with Cam and Trav Cloke.

Not a single mention of Fraser playing in the ruck either, in fact it was implied he's earmarked to play forward next year. So I dont know where you get your theories from that he's going to be our only ruckman.
