From my own point of view, I think Chris Judd left when West Coast needed him most. I mean he was living in Perth only five hours flight from Melbourne, where the Eagles travelled at least six times a season, usually more.
I have lived overseas for most of my life and dealt with the family issues. Judd is no saint. That may or may not be revealed but while he was a very good player during his tenure at the West Coast Eagles, it wouldn't have killed him to play for another two years and help the club rebuild.
I think his timing was poor and the way he paraded himself around the Victorian clubs arrogant.
There is no doubt other people - such as the behaviour of Ben Cousins - didn't help. Nor the officials turning a blind eye but ultimately I don't believe in leaving when someone you are close to is going through an extremely hard time, especially when you are captain. Remember, no one held a gun to his head to take the captaincy.
As for now, I accept he is a very talented player even if his kicking tends to let him down late in the game. (In the Essendon match, out of his last 10 disposals, five went straight to Bomber players, but I am still willing to bet he got best on ground votes).
People make decisions in life for all sorts of reasons. You never really know why. Judd is a very talented player and will almost certainly win another Brownlow Medal. I just hope he never wins another premiership!
