Obviously Judd will get more recognition for a similar season due to his heightened status in the AFL. Having said that I disagree with him being AA captain. And Lids will start making inroads soon. Firmly entrenched in the AA team next year, with a shiny new medal around his neck.

Deledio doesn't impact a game like Judd. It's the same with Judd Vs Hodge. Hodge get's alot of cheaper possies in the back 50 while Judd's stats usually are in and under or setting up a foward on the lead.

Deledio had a very good season however at this stage he handball's too much, still doesn't use his run enough, doesn't tackle enough and doesn't yet have an inside ability. On the upside with Foley, Cousins, Tuck, Coughlan, Jackson and Thomson in the side, he won't have to develop the inside part to his game under as much pressure

i wouldnt have thought it was that clear, the only hurdle Lids has to clear for AA selection is the unwritten rule that a good season MUST be followed up..He needs to step up again in 2009 with his 2008 form the min standard...and he will

Judd didn't have a major impact until he was about 21. That is how old Deledio is now. Judd is 25 now and he may be past his best imo. Lids had just as good a season as judd in 2008. Judd didn't have the pace and he couldn't break many tackles in 2008 like he did from 2005-2007. In 2008 Judd and Lids were equal in influence. Lids is just entering the period where Judd made an impact as a 21-24 year old. Lids could end up just as good or close to it by the time he is 25. Judd has been the better player of course, but no one can say who was the better player until both players finish their career. Lids has a bit to do though to catch Judd, but looking at 2009 they should be close to equal unless Judd can play like he did when he was about 22 years of age. Lids has plenty of time to catch him and if he continues his 2008 form, he'll reading the ball like Judd did at West Coast and bursting through with speed. Lids has the skill and speed of Judd and he has a better mark, but he needs to work on his reading of the play and become more confident and courageous when taking the opposition on

Don't agree. He wasn't invincible in 2008, I saw him get tackled a few times and he didn't have the pace to get away. Gary Ablett was a step above Judd in 2008. Judd was a better player from 2005-2007. Ablett is as good now as Judd was back then

I consider them both even. Judd would have done better in the middle, but Lids kicked more goals. Both were pretty good. Lids won the b&f. Hodge and Ablett surpassed Judd in 2008 on current form(not better over the career thought yet). If Judd doesn't get back to his WC form, Lids will surpass him on current form too. Lids is entering the best part of his career so far as a player imo

The second part is correct, but non-biased fans would take Judd's 2008 over Deledio's. Doesn't mean Lids won't improve and surpass Judd, but none of Deledio's years have been better than the corresponding one of Judds.

Lids had a great year and I have no doubt he will become a brilliant player (He is very good atm) He has speed, good skills and he has the ability to turn the game on its head. He can also go forward and kick a goal. Judd was AA captain because he has had a good couple of years(and a good career) As someone said above the unwritten rule is you have to have a good couple of years before you get AA. Lids will come very close if he does not make it next season.

One stat I would like to see is effective disposals. Anyone know where i could find it?

i actually think Lid's season was every bit as good as Judd's.

Ppl sell him short, Lids actually matches Joel Selwood in contested possessions, why do ppl keep thinking he cant win his own ball?

he av eraged 25 possies a game 28 goals from midfield, top 25 in the league in assists and one of the lowest clanger counts in the league. The only area he needs to up the ante in where hes sub par is tackles and tackle count, and his clearance work could and should be better for the type of player that he is.

don't get me wrong, im not dillusional Judd is by far the better player and the best player in the league bar nonewhen fully fit but he wasn't that far ahead of Lids in 08 if at all imo
